  Barrett and his team built an addition onto our house with a garage and an attached suite (with two full bedrooms, bathrooms, and a small kitchen), as well as a gut renovation of the main kitchen and primary bathroom. The entire team does excellent, meticulous work that is thoughtfully and beautifully designed. Barrett’s sub-contractors are also great. We’re super happy with the finished results—high quality, durable, and aesthetically beautiful. Barrett Smith Construction combines the professionalism of a long-established, large company with the personal attention of a new, small company. We reached out to several well-established contracting companies in the Victoria area, and Barrett stood out by responding to our inquiry right away (while some other companies took their time or never responded at all). To us, the qualities in a contracting company that matter the most are reliability, professionalism, honesty/transparency, and of course, quality. From the first response to our inquiry, Barrett was quick, reliable, and respectful in communication about our project on all details, large and small. He was highly responsive by text, and was always happy to stop by in person to discuss—and even hop on a zoom call when we were not local for discussions. I have heard many nightmare stories from others about contractors who just ghost you—that’s not Barrett. If anything, he nudges you to make progress on design decisions. :) Barrett and his team also stood out to us for being straightforward, no-nonsense types, but also personable and kind. Barrett will tell you if he thinks a product is a rip-off, and also if he thinks the extra cost (and quality) is worth it. We came to trust his advice. We were especially struck when his own team member commented to us (without being asked) that Barrett stands out among bosses as being exceedingly honest and trustworthy. Our billing statements from Barrett reassuringly reflected this comment. We received detailed invoices with line item details, receipts, and hourly work logs for each team member. That level of detail and organization was also mirrored in the communication and decision-making about the project. Plus, my young children were obsessed with their excavator, and Barrett warmly showed them how it works, which has become a core memory for them.

  We just completed an extensive, whole home renovation with Barrett Smith, who was recommended to us by friends. He was great to work with - professional, responsive whenever we reached out, and provided a high-quality team of both his own people and subcontractors. We found him collaborative, too. Sometimes we had an idea to make things better, sometimes he did. There were a few surprises, as will happen in any big renovation, but we got through them quickly. The bottom line on Barrett is this - high quality work done by someone who is easy to work with. We definitely recommend hi. (P.S. The punch list was tiny and quickly attended to - an added bonus.)

  We had Barrett construction replace our carpets with engineered hardwood and create a faux fireplace for our electric fireplace and tv. The fellas that worked here were polite, meticulous and excellent workers. Both jobs were beyond our expectations. We are so happy with both projects and would highly recommend this company for any project you need done. It is now a couple of months since completion of our projects. The last was adding an extra bannister to our staircase. We are so impressed with how our home now looks and guests are quick to tell us our home looks amazing. Thanks Barrett and your excellent team of guys. We are more than happy.
