Right off the bat, I have to say that my reviews are usually positive. But not this time… My partner has low vision, so I searched online for a device called an "electronic video magnifier." Based on my research, the Optelec Compact 10 HD model seemed to be the best fit for her reading needs (newspapers, books, writing, etc.). So, I ordered it last Friday. The company representative took down the credit card number, and everything seemed perfect. A few days later, he called us back because the credit card didn't seem to be working. My partner gave him her number again, and he admitted he'd made a mistake. His error. It happens. Let's be understanding. He then told me the delivery would be the following Tuesday. We got ready, phone in hand, to make sure we didn't miss it. Nothing. Absolutely nothing! No doorbell ring, no email notification. I even checked my display: the word INTERCOM wasn't shown. So, no one from UPS came. Or, and this is possible, the driver pressed 12 instead of 112, as indicated next to our names on the sign outside the entrance. I usually include instructions, but since I didn't receive any notification from UPS, the driver left the package where I was supposed to pick it up. How is it that the UPS driver didn't leave a warning card at the entrance or send me an email (as is ALWAYS the case) notifying me that no one was home and that they would come back the next day? Meanwhile, I received a fraudulent email impersonating one from UPS. I wrote to Optelec about this, and they confirmed that it wasn't the correct order number and that it was indeed spam. Yes, but what is this order number if UPS isn't contacting me? I called the customer service representative again and explained the problem. He yelled at me, wouldn't let me speak, constantly interrupted me, didn't listen at all, etc. They often say the customer is king. Oh really? Well, not for them! "Just go pick it up where it was left!" What's the point of delivery? Here, we're dealing with a vulnerable clientele (elderly, disabled people), and they're making me feel guilty. Unbelievable! "I've been in this business for 20 years, and no delivery company has ever sent an email to notify me of the delivery date!" Where did he get that idea? Whether it was DHL, Purolator, UPS, or Canada Post, they all always notified me by email. "Only Amazon does that!" No, my friend, they all have, ever since I started ordering online! And he stubbornly contradicts me. Wow! What customer service. It's a tried-and-tested method for getting rid of customers. And I must say, it worked because I cancelled the order and demanded a refund! Which, to my great surprise, was done quickly. If it happened to me, it means others have experienced it too! Why act this way? Instead of reassuring me by saying they would satisfy me and asking UPS to reschedule the delivery for another day, as they should have done. A strange way to act. So, what's lacking in this whole ordeal is the customer service staff of this damn company and UPS. It goes without saying that I don't recommend them. Not at all. I finally bought the desired product from another Canadian company. So be it.
