We attended the Comox Valley Home show and bought an extremely expensive adjustable bed from Todd from Sleep Mart. We were told at the time of purchase that there was a 100 day, 100% comfort guarantee. After payment was processed we were then informed that the guarantee was for exchange only. This gave us pause and consider cancelling the payment and voiding the deal. After some back-and-forth with sales representative Todd, he assured us we would love the bed, and he would have no trouble “ upgrading us to the top of the line mattresses if need be” Immediately, after receiving the bed, both my wife and I noticed we were waking up with extremely sore backs. We decided to give it an honest try and see if we would adapt. After more than a month and still waking up in pain every morning, we contacted Todd to voice our concerns with him. We were then told that yes he would in fact, upgrade us to the next mattress, but for a very steep price. When we explain to him that he had misrepresented the situation and told us at the point of sale that he would upgrade us, if need be, no mention was ever made of additional costs. This came as a complete shock to us. His explanation to us was, if you buy a Hyundai and you don’t like it and bring it back, they don’t give you a Ferrari. As we absolutely understand this, if there is a guarantee with a car, there is an option by the same manufacturer. I’m sure if we bought a Hyundai , with a satisfaction guarantee, we could trade it for another Hyundai of similar value. PlasmaPedic, and or Sleep Mart don’t appear to have anything in the same price range. This effectively makes their comfort guarantee a joke. I believe Todd completely misrepresented the situation and the warranty. Sleep Mart’s business practices appear to be unethical and deceptive! We now have an extremely expensive bed that we can’t sleep in. We are seniors on a fixed income. This purchase was supposed to make our life more comfortable, but instead has been a financial drain due to the expense of the bed and not being able to use it as it was intended. On the bright side, the adjustable feature is wonderful, and it is great for watching TV. A couple of recliners would have been much more affordable. Update: after posting this review and filing with the Better Business Bureau, Sleep Mart contacted us and informed us they were replacing our mattresses. Salesman Todd informed me that he was upgrading us by “ two or three levels” In fact, there are only three levels, and we were upgraded by one level. Despite this in accuracy, our mattresses have been replaced with one that is more suitable. It is still not the most comfortable mattress, but at least we are not waking up with sore backs anymore. We appreciate that Sleep Mart has made this change, but feel this wouldn’t have happened without our bad reviews and file with the BBB.
