Catering Review: It has taken me 2 months to decide to write this review, I had been reluctant as I had eaten at The Lunchbox Café often. The food and service were always excellent, and I got to know Cheryl on a personal level. I first reached out to Cheryl in Jan.2025, to secure her services for our event. We discussed date, location, delivery and the types and quantity of platters that we were considering based on our estimated number of attendees for our mother’s 90th Open House, July 19th. After talking with my brother who has worked in the restaurant business his entire career, we placed our order, confident that we would get the same quality and service that I had experienced at the Café. Over the next few months, we communicated back and forth sorting out the details of the order. The order consisted of 4 lg. assorted sandwich trays, 20 wraps, 4 lg. veggie trays and 4 lg. cheese & crackers tray. I was told the sandwiches would assorted cut in quarters and the wraps would be cut in halves mixed in with the sandwiches for a nice presentation. We were extremely disappointed with the order! Some of the trays were obviously damaged during delivery, squished messy sandwiches, the sandwich trays were NOT assorted as promised, and the wraps were on a separate tray, not mixed in the sandwiches! The sandwiches and wraps were slimy and falling apart, obviously not prepared on the day of the event. The veggies were not fresh and crackers on the cheese trays had already begun to soften. We had to find new trays, luckily there were some at the facility and do our best to create our own assortments and reform the sandwiches and wraps (Cheryl provided us with gloves to do this! on her delivery) obviously knowing they were not going to be presentable for our guests. I followed up in writing to Cheryl, to let her know how disappointed we were. This was her response, “Yes, sandwiches were made day before-we are a weekday program so no staff on weekends -just me. Given sandwiches were cut in quarters – should have used more trays because they just don’t stay together when cut in quarters. Veggies were purchased on the Thursday, crackers were put on cheese trays the morning of. Thanks for the feedback” We feel we should have been made aware of all these factors in advance, to make an informed choice of caterers. We were embarrassed and any leftovers had to be disposed of because they were not fresh enough to keep. Schouten Family.

The new location was great (at least there were windows) but short lived - they are closing for summer. New activities in the community started but that also is closing. While clients are in-house (which is the better part of their day - everyday) they are not engaged. They are left to their own accord to entertain themselves. Often they are starring off into space or twirling around the room in boredom. The days are long and they are ready to leave before the time is up. They wait by the window for their ride. There’s no reason it couldn’t be made into a positive healthy environment that they look forward to going to, where they could thrive - a place they wouldn’t want to leave. Why is that too much to ask ? Is it because clients don’t have other options for Milton? No effort is required? What is advertised and the reality are quite different. The photos look great online. I assume they were moments in a larger scope of time. Perhaps that’s where all the effort goes to - marketing. The in-house engagement between paid programming (which is above and beyond CLNH fees) is concerning. It’s non-existent completely. If you can afford CLNH daily fee PLUS fees for every single program offered through the day and send in your own entertainment for your loved ones for between the paid programming - it could be doable but you are basically paying full day fee for your loved one to just sit in a room. They can’t even participate in events that are about them (ie. Flag raising at Town Hall). What a great opportunity for inclusiveness and celebration. Who is all the advertising for??? The business or the people ????
