Palliative and hospice care focus on comfort, dignity, and quality of life through a serious illness: pain and symptom relief, emotional and spiritual support, and help for the whole family, including bereavement. It can begin alongside treatment, not only at the very end.
Care can be provided at home, in a hospice, in hospital, or within a care community, and much of it is publicly funded in Canada.
