About This Community

Prairie Hospice Society provides compassionate, community-based, non-medical end-of-life support to people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Saskatoon, offering services at no cost wherever people call home.

Senior Care Path Summary

Prairie Hospice Society is a community-based hospice organization serving Saskatoon that provides palliative and end-of-life support through trained volunteers.

The organization operates on the principle of "Hospice without Walls," delivering services in clients' homes rather than in institutional settings.

Services include one-on-one companionship visits, friendly transportation for appointments and outings, respite care for family caregivers, and grief and bereavement support. All services are provided free of charge and are tailored to individual needs.

Volunteers are carefully screened through criminal record checks, interviews, and reference checks, then complete a comprehensive training program. Each client is matched with the same volunteer to build trust and meaningful connections.

Volunteers offer approximately four hours per week and may continue supporting families for up to a year after a loved one's death.

The organization serves people living with life-limiting or palliative diagnoses who are no longer receiving curative treatment and live in Saskatoon city limits. Prairie Hospice is not government-funded and relies on donations and community support.
