We stayed at this apartment for about a year and a half, and it holds sentimental value as it was the first place we moved into after our marriage. Unfortunately, our overall experience turned out to be quite disappointing. We have lived in other apartments before and have never faced issues like this. One of the main concerns was the lack of proper notice before a visit. On an occasion, the staff arrived unannounced under the pretext of “inspections,” especially when we had requested repairs. This felt intrusive and became really frustrating. The move-out process was particularly unpleasant and unprofessional. Although the lease did not require us to be present for the final inspection, we were insisted upon to attend. During the inspection, it felt like every minor detail was being pointed out as an issue. Normal wear and tear was labeled as damage, including things like mirrors that were not broken but affected by poor installation choices. Whenever we tried to explain that something did not seem like damage, it was dismissed as “arguing,” and we were told we could take the matter to tenancy court if we disagreed. The tone felt rude and dismissive throughout. At that point, we chose not to prolong the situation - we signed the documents, accepted the deductions, and moved on. It’s also worth noting that with a damage deposit amounting to half a month’s rent, along with mandatory professional cleaning costs and additional deductions for what was considered “damage,” it felt unlikely that tenants would receive much of the deposit back regardless. This leaves little room for fairness in how normal wear and tear is evaluated. While the apartment itself may work for some, our experience significantly affected our peace of mind, especially towards the end.

Hidden gem in downtown Dartmouth. New 4-story building only 2 1/2 years old. Air conditioned/heat pump, in-floor radiant heating, laundry in apartment, elevator, lovely deck surrounded by mature trees, underground parking, secure building, rooftop deck with view of Halifax Harbour, games room with pool table & piano, gym room, ten minute walk to Alderney ferry, near bus stop, quiet dead-end street with duck pond, pets allowed, and building manager lives on-site.
