We were initially reassured during our tour of The Eleanor that our family member’s care and support needs would be fully met by the facility. At no point were we informed that another family member would be expected to move in and serve as a caregiver. Yet, that’s exactly what was later proposed—despite the high care costs we were being quoted. After weeks of repeatedly requesting a detailed cost breakdown, we were blindsided just two weeks before discharge with an estimate of $35,040 per month for care alone, provided by the Director of Client Services, Alice Choi. This figure appears to reflect 24/7 one-on-one care, yet it was never clearly explained why such an intensive level of staffing was assumed by default—other than a vague explanation that The Eleanor is “not a care facility.” When we questioned the estimate, the hourly rate for care suddenly increased from $45 (originally provided in writing) to $48 during a phone call—an arbitrary change that highlights the inconsistency and disorganization in their process. Even more frustrating is the clear disconnect between what was promised during our site visit and what is now being proposed. We were told The Eleanor could meet standard care needs without placing additional responsibilities on the family. The last-minute request for a family member to move in as a caregiver directly contradicts those assurances. Frankly, the way this has been handled feels more like a for-profit business focused on maximizing billing than a facility prioritizing resident well-being. The experience has been marked by poor communication, a lack of transparency, and disregard for critical timelines. For anyone considering The Eleanor, I strongly recommend getting everything in writing early on—including what level of care is included, how pricing is structured, and what (if any) responsibilities will fall to family members. Our experience has been stressful, disappointing, and has forced us to seek an alternative solution on extremely short notice. Based on how this situation has been managed, I shudder to think what actual care would have looked like if communication is any indication.

Took CPR will Richard and he was very knowledgeable, has a lot of real world experience, and was able to share that with us clearly. Was open to questions and answers thoroughly. I felt I got exactly what I came for.
