Senior Care Path Summary

Montreal Therapy Centre provides individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and creative therapies (art, drama, and music therapy) for people of various life stages. Sessions are available both in-person and online through a secure video platform, which may be convenient for seniors with mobility concerns or those who prefer to receive care from home.

The centre does not specifically highlight experience with older adults or geriatric mental health concerns on its website. The service offerings focus on general issues like depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and personal growth. While seniors may benefit from these general therapeutic services, the website does not describe any specialized programming, accessibility features (such as ground-floor locations, wheelchair access, or adapted office spaces), or staffing trained in age-related mental health challenges common to older populations.

The centre operates in Montreal and offers services in English, French, and Spanish, making it accessible to multilingual residents. Prospective clients can book appointments online through their intake system, and the team will match clients with an appropriate therapist.

Sure, it was quick to get assigned a therapist but the quality of therapy was awful. My first therapist cancelled on me often. One time she went on vacation for weeks and didn’t tell me, I thought she ghosted me. She would often get my name wrong and misspell it. When I asked her for tools to cope with panic attacks / how to recognize my triggers, she would tell me I need to figure it out on my own because she’s not here to tell me all the answers. When I asked if she had any book recommendations she had none. She had no understanding of how to deal with me. After 5 sessions I quit. I felt like she was just wasting my time with unstructured therapy that went nowhere. It was like talking to a wall. I could have gotten more out of writing diary entries. After this experience I tried again. I emphasized on the intake form that I am nonbinary, that my preferred name is Morgan, and here are my pronouns. I stated that it’s important that my therapist remembers and gets basic facts about me correctly. I mentioned that I had a bad experience with a previous clinician before. The second therapist I interacted with deadnamed me immediately. AND she misspelled my deadname. When I pointed this out I was met with an AI generated apology. This means that if they pasted my complaint into ChatGPT or another LLM to draft a response: my legal name, my pronouns, the context for why I might seek therapy, might have all potentially went through a third-party server with whatever data retention policies that service has and I have no consent over that process.

I learned a lot in their systemic I and II courses and their practicum placement helped me gain experience. I recommend.

I’m so happy I found MTC! Especially since English options in Montreal are limited. Their Level 3 course, approved by OTSTCFQ, was such a lifesaver for me as a candidate. The content was super well-structured, and I genuinely learned so much. I’d highly recommend it to anyone needing a clear, professional path to certification!
