Hello. I am a client at Community Health Services/Metro Community Living, and I want to share my story. I started out living at Alex Street at 18 years old in the year 2012. Most of them.. they mentally and emotionally abused me, bullied me, laughed at me, and singled me out almost everyday. On top of that, the first 5 years, I couldn’t access my electronics, including my phone, and I couldn’t leave the house without staff. Their reason? I was addicted to video games and my laptop, and I wasn’t “street smart”. It took them 5 years to let me “prove myself”. During the time of the restrictions, I was only allowed to have 3 separate half hours a day on my electronics. I also could only use the house phone 15 minutes every hour, and if I showed any concern about it, then I’d lose my phone privileges for 24 hours. A few times, I lost both my electronics privileges and phone privileges for 24 hours, so I ran away. In case you’re wondering, no, I was not under court order or with adult protection. I haven’t seen a more disorganized and dysfunctional company in my whole life. On top of that, there is so much drama between the clients (excluding me because I try to stay clear from drama), that it’s sickening. And staff too probably. A lot of the staff act like they are in high school, and they also act just like some of the clients. I got kicked out of Alex Street forever at 27 years old in the year 2020 after getting into a fight with someone. I kept telling the higher ups that I wanted to hurt everyone that I didn’t get along with at that time, because they constantly treated me terribly, and so I needed to get out of there. What did they do? NOTHING, not until I lost it. I kept going back because I felt so guilty, and I didn’t quite understand why I was barred forever and I didn’t understand why they would call the cops on me and shut the curtains and lock the doors, whenever I went there or whenever I walked down the street. I haven’t been back since October 2022, and I feel SO BROKEN. The day I lost it, I got thrown out of the house by a staff that was obsessed with me, and probably still is. I was crying so hard. When I got back in, he and another staff was gossiping and laughing about what happened. I thought that was EXTREMELY RUDE AND EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. It’s like they were happy they pushed my buttons so much that I finally snapped. I wanted to hurt them, but I didn’t want to get into anymore trouble. Then I find out that staff and clients are gossiping TO EACH OTHER about what I did, and making stuff up in the process… I just have no words for how disgusting and disgraceful that is. People also steal things out of client’s personal rooms. Clients aren’t allowed to have their doors locked, because of fire regulations. Apparently, fire regulations are more important then stuff going missing out of client’s rooms pretty much everyday. Clients would have the cops called on them if they were caught, but staff (and some clients who aren’t caught) are allowed to act like literal criminals and get away with it. Some clients are allowed to act like criminals and some clients are favourited over others, which isn’t right. I lent a friend 2 computers and her ex friend stole them and pawned them. I mentioned it to the higher ups, but there was “no proof”. Then for a bit, I was living at another place, and then I told them that I’d rather not return until things change, and they said they would call non emergency police for my safety if I didn’t return, but in the meantime, they had the nerve to write down on loose leaf that the staff are instructed to call the cops on me TO KEEP RECORD. They mentioned NOTHING about my SAFETY, only to ME. Also, they mentioned Alex Street on loose leaf to call the cops on me if I go there, yeah yeah, they don’t want to set me up for failure my butt. I am extremely traumatized from my past and from this company/program. Don’t send someone to live here unless you want them to get more mentally ill, and don’t apply here if you have a heart. I’m switching over to Jaz Community Support.
