I am a patient on the rehab floor. All the staff here are great. They are friendly and efficient. My room is clean as are the common areas. I am impressed with the quality and taste of the food. The chef does an excellent job of providing a variety of meals while making sure there is fibre, fruit, vegetables and protein. I feel very lucky to be rehabbing here.

I have lived here for over a year and a half. There is a lot to be desired. I am thankful for the care I receive but many things can be corrected and improved without spending money. Many people who live here can help by helping others by volunteering. I am a professional educator and willing to lead seminars on discussing topics of mutual interest. Many residents here are helpless. They are not informed of their basic rights. They do not know who their social worker is or any facts about how to receive help they need .They are alone and abandoned. They are very quiet and silent. The silent majority lives here. They do not have or get a hearing aid or dental care or their pensions or benefits when they need the care. Eye glasses too. They have questions and they need help. They are not getting the help and attention required.lThey have to fend for themselves and are just not able to function on their own. Glenmount is providing the most basic care but can do much more ..in the way of meeting the needs of its residents. They make an effort once in awhile but that’s it that’s all. It is not enough. We are paying for services that we just do not get. A resident of Le Glenmount..Not a happy camper ! ‘

Understaffed, PAB staff are overworked resulting in degradation of patient care. Poor equipment. Eg. Limited number of wheelchairs and those chairs do not have leg supports or foot rests. Physio improvises leg supports with towel padded crutches which are quite uncomfortable and not adjustable. Food quality poor to awful. Most of PAB staff do not/cannot speak English. The male PAB on night shift was mute and unresponsive.I resorted to pointing at what I needed. No one looks after the psychological well being of patients. There are no games, cards, magazines, or books available in the dining area. No psychological support staff to counsel patients. There is a large screen TV and patients sit mute, staring at tv. It is Important to stress that staff tries its best but it is impossible to provide the care needed for patients when they also have to wash and fold all laundry including patients personal laundry, make up beds, change beds, wash and shower patients, sort and prepare food trays when food arrives in bulk from the kitchen, distribute meals, collect trays and clean up after meals. They were even seen washing the kitchen floor. At the same time, answering call lights quickly seems to be a priority but it is often not possible to meet that expectation because of the work load. My room mate was left in a heap at the bottom of her bed, staring up at her unreachable meal tray. It took forever to have someone come in to assist her. (I have a photo). Other patients reported being stranded on the toilet. The second call light in my room was not working.I worked the one call light for both of us. Attempts to fix the second light were unsuccessful. I had the use of the one bathroom and my room mate was forced to use the commode or diapers. We were separted as soon as possible but endured the situation for 3-4 days. On the plus side, the individual rooms are large, airy, bright and exceptionally clean. The cleaning staff are quick to respond to cleaning needs. I had to rent a proper wheelchair to support my leg (It was in a Zimmer Brace). The walkers were not the correct size so not usable. There was one adjustable cane for the ward. I had to use a garbage pail in which my room mate's urine soaked diapers were placed to support my leg while sitting in a chair for my meal. Not the most appetizing situation. I had to rent a fridge to store my own food and often resorted to ordering in so as not to go hungry. One example of an inedible meal was a plate with veggie burger and fries...photo perfect. However, the fries were fossilized, impossible to bite into. The burger was so peppery/rubbery it could not be eaten. Another meal was pasta and sphagetti sauce. I cannot eat tomatoes so instead was served pasta and brown gravy for my meal. No protein included, just pasta smothered in brown gravy.( I have a photo). One unidentifiable mashed meal concoction ( a stew?) arrived looking like someone had vomited on the plate (I have a photo) The poached eggs arrived like hockey pucks, rubbery enough to bounce. inedible. Meals often arrived cold. Seasoning was nonexistent or overdone. There was no screen on the window in my room which allowed a large fly to take up residence with me. I was told that a window screen consitituted a fire hazard? There is no parking for visitors. Jean Talon is a busy street and there is scant parking available near the hospital. Winter must be a nightmare! On arrival, there is nothing provided. Not even kleenex at the bedside. The nursing station has no medication whatsoever. There is much more to say but it might become book length. I would appreciate more than an automated response please. Bottom line, I would not recommend this setting to anyone without the financial means and/or attendant family members to look after their needs privately.
