Negative experiences with frontline staff who refused to provide proper and responsible supervision, particularly in the smoking room or its access points. *** EQUIP YOUR LOVED OWNER WITH CAMERAS (Ministerial guidelines apply) for your loved one's room. Theft/Loss of clothing and toiletries. BEWARE OF CHEATING. Residents are afraid at this facility, just as they are afraid in most long-term care facilities and their smoking rooms. The MANAGEMENT of VIOLENCE in these institutions is generally POOR: "Residents known to be violent are allowed to move about freely, resulting in the safety of all residents and staff being jeopardized." Furthermore, the RIGHT to a "SAFE" living environment is DEFICIENT in the Charter of Rights for Residents of Long-Term Care Facilities (a Charter implemented by our government). This should have been established from the outset when the decision was made to share housing for seniors and vulnerable individuals with people struggling with mental illnesses that make them potentially violent. The status quo makes no sense: "A way of doing things that creates repeated victims." On the other hand, the recreation and administrative support services are excellent, but the difficulty in Montreal is too often due to poor communication between families and frontline nursing staff (especially licensed practical nurses). There is far too much lack of collaboration, and when it comes to the SAFETY of our loved ones, I don't know anyone who would be willing to compromise. There are significant shortcomings in this area, and this deficiency seems to be widespread in all long-term care facilities. Our seniors deserve better than this. This problem requires change. Furthermore, it seems inconceivable to me that our healthcare unions have never been able to change this practice. Such a recurring problem will only worsen over the years in the context of an aging population if we don't intervene now. This is an issue that our elected officials should consider if they intend to continue turning a blind eye to this way of operating. Doesn't a society that calls itself civilized have an obligation to show compassion towards its elders? To do nothing is to become complicit in such a system. Our Quebec Charter should include the right to end our days in a safe environment, and I see no violation of our Charter in regulating the movements of an individual known to be ill but violent by keeping them away from a vulnerable population: it's simply a matter of common sense. For all these reasons, and in order to protect vulnerable Quebecers and their families, I believe it has become necessary to have a commission of inquiry into the management of the long-term care facilities (CHSLDs) of the CIUSSS Centre-Sud so that citizens can have their say on the matter. And don't count on the Complaints Commissioner's office to help you: these offices have no power to intervene. It makes no sense to me.

I ask to take my father out, they made the prosses long and painful. They make sign many papers, some of them in white, then they clam I abandoned the right of medical treatment and medications, I move my father because they leave him without attention for days and every time I want to bring him any thing (soap, shape blades, even bed covers) you must hide it in the room, because some how got missing. Really deceived nurses and no help at all. I hope someone investigate this kind of practices and behavior.
