This is for my father, and for anyone who does not have an advocate, or who is considering Trinity Manor as a place to seek care for their loved one. They sell you on the standstill cruise ship aesthetic, which is appealing. They reassure you that proper care will be provided to every resident. However, what I witnessed — and what I have since heard from many other families — tells a very different story. This is a care home that appears focused more on corporate interests than on patient-centered care. My father was a businessman. Every single day he got dressed — undershirt, shirt, pants, belt, socks, slippers. He would either be in his room watching TV, scrolling on his phone, or downstairs at the bistro having coffee. He had routine. He had pride. When I hadn’t heard from him in 12 hours and my repeated calls went unanswered, I knew something was wrong. My mother and I rushed to Trinity. We found my father lying in bed, half-naked, incoherent, and mumbling. This was not “just not feeling well.” We asked whether his vitals had been taken. They had not. Staff simply said he wasn’t feeling well. We immediately asked for a nurse. She was unable to come. I called the manager — she was in a meeting. No one treated this as urgent. No one acknowledged how critically ill he appeared. When a care aide and an LPN finally checked his vitals, his blood pressure was 220 over 125 — a hypertensive crisis. This was extreme and dangerous. In my opinion, this was gross neglect. When EMS arrived, they asked for his records from that day. Trinity Manor could not provide them because no records had been taken. EMS informed us that documentation is legally required so they can properly assess and treat a patient. Downstairs, I questioned the LPN, Kerry asking why no one alerted us, why no one called EMS, and why his vitals had not been taken. Instead of accountability, she called me a racist — completely unprovoked and without basis. I have always advocated for refugees, immigrants, and Indigenous people in our city. To be accused of that in a moment of crisis felt like gaslighting. I was vulnerable, terrified for my father’s life, and instead of addressing the neglect, she deflected and attacked my character. We got my father to the hospital in critical condition. After this incident, there was no possibility of him returning to Trinity Manor. I could not — and cannot — trust their care. Allowing him to go back would have felt like I was doing him a disservice by knowingly permitting this level of neglect. I strongly urge anyone considering Trinity Manor to think carefully. If your loved one is fully independent and able to advocate for themselves, that may be one thing. But if they rely on staff for monitoring, medical care, and advocacy, I encourage you to explore other options. Since this happened, I have spoken to many families who describe similar experiences: repeated falls, hygiene concerns, questionable medication administration, and a pattern of neglect. This is not written out of malice. It is written out of love for my father and a desire to protect other families from experiencing what we did. I hope that by sharing this, others can make an informed decision about where to place their loved ones. Please — do not ignore the warning signs. Do not assume that appearances equal care.

Our mother was at Trinity Manor At Westerra for just less than one year. I am writing this review in an attempt to warn other family members what Trinity actually provides rather than what they tell you they provide when you tour their facility. I did not view any reviews on Trinity prior to placing my mom in their care, however I should have. Others have spoken of the same situations in which we encountered. We wanted to move my mom from her home into a place that could accommodate her needs at the moment as well as in the future which included end of life care. We were told of the price changes as her needs increased but was assured by Catherine they could fulfill her needs. We agreed and moved her into Trinity. Fast forward 11 months later when my mother dramatically declined in a week, the nursing staff told me Trinity no longer is able to provide palliative care and that they stopped doing this several months ago. We were then told by the Palliative Care Home team that they were not even allowed into Trinity to assess my mom as she was on the care side of Trinity. We were forced to scramble at the last minute and the worst time to find adequate care for my mom. When I approached the new General manager Melissa about my concerns regarding the fact this was never communicated to the residents nor their families, Melissa told me that I was not the first person to come to her with these concerns. I spoke with Melissa about understanding the nursing shortage, but they need to be transparent and to communicate changes such as this which hold such a dramatic impact. I was informed at that time July 11,2024 that in fact they also do not have any night shift nurses and have not had any for several months. I was appalled that this was never communicated to us as well. To this date, as I write this, on their website it states “At Trinity manor at westerra friendly and experienced caregivers are available 24/7 if needed and are supervised by licenced nurses.” This is a lie. There are no licenced nurses working at night if something should happen. The care aid staff are extremely junior with the exception of a handful as we were there daily to witness the quick turnover of staff on an ongoing basis. I begged Melissa to be transparent about the changes at Trinity. I have emailed her with no response to my concerns. There is a lovely mission statement you can view on arrival . These are just words. There is no integrity, morals or ethics behind those words in my option. They hide behind Christian platform but are just another facility that takes advantage of the most vulnerable clients. In addition to the biggest issue that arose while my mother was there, was the fact that on several occasions my mother was not picked up from her room to be taken for meals. On several occasions she had been picked up to go to the dining room but never served her meal. We have email trails written to the management of Trinity of this occurring and they apologized and said they are trying to rectify the situation. This happened to someone again just prior to my mom leaving Trinity so therefore still occurring! It is a beautiful facility I do agree with that. However, the core flaws that need to be dealt with will never ne fixed I’m sure as it all comes down to their bottom line.

When we toured Trinity Manor and were deciding on an appropriate place for my husband to reside, we were assured that they could accommodate till end of life. Not quite 3 months later when my husband could not remember to press the call button, we were advised that they could not accommodate his needs. Three days later we were advised that our best option would be for them to call EMS and have him taken to Emergency for an assessment. Once at the hospital he could no longer go back because they could not accommodate him. We were left scrambling to find a place for him. This was a very stressful situation. It was also determined that he had a bladder infection. This infection caused him to be confused and he ended up falling a great deal. Therefore, Trinity Manor was not a safe place for him. I had reached out to the head nurse there for help as she had experience in this area. Not once was I advised that he could possibly have a bladder infection. This was something that I feel she would have knowledge of. I know of one other family who encountered the exact experience. Also when speaking to the assessment coordinator with Sask Health, I was advised that she had also heard that this was occurring at Trinity Manor. So make sure that you know exactly what kind of care your loved one will be receiving before deciding to move in there. With respect to your response to my review- The discussion regarding end of life care where specialized facilities were more equipped to handle certain health situations never occurred in pre-move-in conversations. I also am aware of two other families who placed their loved ones in your facility and were not advised as well.
