  My review is mixed so left 3 stars at the halfway. I would have to say the staff is nice and he got adequate care while he was there. The area is nice in James Bay, close to amenities and park for walking. Staff were especially supportive during his last day with us while we were with him as he passed on Easter Sunday. That being said, I would say to be aware of some of the nickel-and-diming and issues with missing belongings. As an example is we had to pay an fee to have all his clothing labelled by staff and things still went missing. Blanket, brand new jeans etc. Some things retrieved after having to vocalize how upset we were, others still missing. When I saw his things after he passed some of the labeling was literally black permanent markers with his name hand written in. When I got tired of things going missing I ordered my own iron-on labels from Amazon for about $10 with his name and room number printed on them and started labeling his clothes and toiletries myself before they left my house to make sure it was adequately done. So why the $80 fee to have names scribbled in marker half the time, is a bit beyond me. On the other hand, clothes that were not his were found in his room with his name on it, some of which we know we would never buy and he would never have worn in a million years if he was still cognitively coherent. An example is a bright neon orange sporty polyester t-shirt, when this man wore conservative, earthy colours being a teacher all his life wearing suit jackets etc. I actually found it kind of offensive to find this shirt and another t-shirt with a large graphic design on the front. This was a professional man all his life and not a 'dude', and it felt a bit disrespectful. We bought him thick plastic clothes hangers for his closet, wrote his name on them, but the ones we found when we collected his things were not the ones we bought. His slippers were gone. Some of the newer clothes we got him were never seen again. In my opinion, it seems not much care goes into maintaining a patient's personal effects, and voicing concerns about where his stuff had gone sometimes met with indifference. I would also be concerned with consumable things like adult diapers. We would buy two packages in his size to be put in his closet, then still get billed for a couple more packages of adult diapers in a month. Where are they all going? We would also find him wearing ones that were too big for him, so not the ones we brought in. He did tell us during the night once he saw a staff member come in taking them from his room. So be prepared to be paying for diapers for any of the other residents it seems. Not to mention the massive amount of Tylenol tablets we have been billed for. I would also recommend making sure communications regarding any changes to patient care are in writing/email outside of a scheduled care plan meeting. We are dealing with an outstanding and unexpected dental bill for cleaning services that we had requested be cancelled in advance. The most recent was dental cleaning on a declining patient who would pass away 5 days later. I think it's now going to be a 'she-said, she-said' situation, so I regret we didn't think to have these things in an email or something to ensure it was understood.

  Beckley Farm Lodge is such a warm, welcoming and safe space for its residents. My parents both resided there until my mom passed last month. My dad is currently a resident. I can’t say enough about how amazing the staff have been throughout the years they have been here. It really is like a family and I am so grateful that my parents were placed here. BFL is a small facility with a huge heart. From the bottom of my heart ❤️…THANK YOU.

  My father has been in Beckley Farm since June, and throughout these past few months, I have been nothing but impressed by the quality of care here. I would go so far as to say that everyone who works at Beckley Farm embodies the very notion of care; they treat residents (both on the main floor and the memory care ward) with decency, respect and compassion. Further, they are very attentive to any medical issues, and extremely prompt in communicating any concerns. Also, I have actually been overwhelmed by just how much everyone here tries to accommodate individual residents; my father was initially in the lower level memory care facility, when he transferred from the Jubilee, but it wasn't a good fit, at all, because he is still quite cognitively aware. In fact, he'd become progressively more depressed, to the point of talking about self-harm, as he realised that he couldn't really converse with most of the residents on his floor. The staff were very aware of the situation, and made sure to bring him to the upper floor for activities as much as possible, in addition to spending time with him whenever they were able; they also wait-listed him for transferral to the upper floor, which occurred a few weeks ago. Unsurprisingly, since his move, my father has been MUCH happier. Is Beckley Farm the most modern, state-of-the-art facility out there? No. However, it truly is NOT "run down" the way many commenters would have everyone believe, and, frankly, if the newness of things like fixtures bothers you, you REALLY need to re-evaluate your priorities when it comes to care. Finally, several of the staff have worked here for over thirty years. You do not, in general, receive that level of employee retention if you are running something badly. Really, I think this says it all.
