I do not live in Edmonton ahd have used HomeFirst HealthCare to provide in-home assistance to my elderly mother since Sept /2025. In all respects, they have been excellent with her in-home care as well as their communication with me as it relates to her wellbeing. The health aid who has been assigned to my mother (Jennifer) has been exceedingly professional and patient. I could not be more pleased with how HomeFirst HealthCare has cared for my mother in my absence. Highly recommended.

This company suppled very uneducated caregivers that I swear were totally new to Homecare or the understanding of Homecare!! Quite often caregivers were not available for shifts, thus leaving me as a client, without care! If you are looking for consistency or professionalism, this is NOT the company to choose!!!!

Things started off pretty good with this agency but I think that’s only because we brought the primary caregiver for them to hire to cover 70% of the shifts. (3 shifts daily). For the whole year we were with HomeFirst, covering shifts was always an issue. I myself had to go do care several times. Most of their caregivers were very nice but ‘were definitely not experienced enough (with the exception of a few) and often just tossed into shifts with zero training on the clients particular needs. Unfortunately as the client (my mother) health declined so did the agency’s care and compassion for her. As I was actively working with Homecare case-managers and PT/OT etc to re-evaluate the care plan, transfers, hours etc and ensure client and staff safety (had been recent falls) they just washed their hands of her as a client and gave us 10days notice to find another agency - via email. Not even a phone call. The excuse was mom was needing to be a 2 person transfer. I confirmed with Homecare that is absolutely NOT what the PT or OT said. ( Mom wasn’t feeling well for a couple weeks and her care was indeed challenging. But we ensured to edit her care plan and all tools and equipment were in place to make care safe for her and staff) To note: In the 10days notice, they continued to staff all shifts with only 1 caregiver (despite them saying she was 2 person transfer)) and all shifts were without incidents. In the 10 days, there was no contact from HomeFirst to the family or even her primary caregiver to ensure client was doing ok or to help guide in the steps of finding new agency, assistance etc. They just stopped caring. Needless to say, if your care needs are quick and easy I’m sure they will be able to accommodate you, but if you are facing mobility challenges or harder levels of care, don’t expect the care and compassion they claim to provide on their website to be what you get.
