WARNING to anyone with loved ones requiring assisted care, WATCH OUT!! If I could give no stars I would. We met the director a few years ago and then spoke frequently the two months before my mother moved in following the unexpected loss of my father, her primary caregiver. We informed him numerous times that she had progressive MS, was almost full time wheelchair and had the beginning stages of dementia. This should have been red flagged from the start but wasn’t. We then moved her out of her home which was built to accommodate her needs and wheelchair accessibility and it was blatantly apparent day one that the staff were not able to deal with her level of care. I therefore was required to come 10-12 hours a day in order to see to her needs like showering, the bathroom, transferring between the wheelchair and bed, and getting her ready for bed. On top of this while signing the paperwork day one we were informed that for an extra fee they’d help her get ready for the day and bed, or if she needed a shower that was an extra cost per shower. They therefore highly recommended that we set up home care. We were paying the following costs per month: flat room rate, incontinence and ambulatory. The flat rate was being increased an obnoxious amount this year and ambulatory mainly consisted of pushing her to and from her room to the dining area. All of these costs were extremely high, with no breakdown of what or why the room rate itself was so high. Hidden fees with our final bill also included: Evening Assistance, Transfer Assistance, Staff Assistance/15min and Nursing Supplies. With the supplies, we as a family had purchased wet wipes, gloves and underwear which the staff used. It was not their own supply they were always utilizing Two days after moving in we were informed by the director of care that she would need to go to another facility and that they, “need to do a better job screening out of town people”. Again, they had two months to call us on the phone to inquire about her daily life and needs. No accountability was placed on the director either as, “he’s not medical”. Five days later I had to ask the director and director of care to initiate crisis placement as it was not feasible for me to continue to come 10-12 hours a day, especially when we are paying to be there. The director actually stated to me that, "we sure were in a jam". At 6.5 days of “living” in Inglewood EMS came to pick my mother up where we then proceeded to go into the public system of crisis placement beginning with the Red Deer Hospital. When the original bill was sent to my sister, it was beyond outrageous for 6.5 days of living there. I went in person to inquire about the charges which were incorrect as many of them charged an extra month. On top of it when I told the manager that my mother should have never been accepted there in the first place, she like the director put full blame onto my family and I by saying that we told them my mother required ONE person to transfer her. That we never mentioned she needed a lift. We never would have mentioned a lift as we didn’t have one in my parents’ home, and we did what we had to do when it came to moving her. Not once did they ask how we were moving her, if it being done safely or if we used any means of aid. I realized then they would never admit that they were the party at fault. After corrections were made the final bill was still grossly overpriced for only being there 6.5 days, but that’s what the private sector does apparently. Hide all the secret costs, want to fill a bed, no accountability or compassion. EXTREMELY disgusted and disappointed at the nightmare they caused my mother and family as we would have never taken her away from her home and what she knew if they couldn't care for her. After losing her partner of 50 years, the worst thing you can do to someone with dementia is move them out of their home and routine. Due to this catastrophe she's now been to 3 new places since January 10th and it has greatly affected her health and mental state.

My dad is very happy in his new home. The staff are very friendly, food is expertly prepared and always served with a smile. His modern suite is clean, comfortable and in good repair. Activities are well organized and fun! My only regret is not finding this place earlier. Jake McDavid
