I often visit my grandparents at the residence; they are very happy and swooning. The staff is very attentive and caring. I am fortunate to participate in activities with my grandparents; they are varied and enjoyable.

My father passed away two years ago in his small room at the end of the corridor on the 6th floor of the Cardinal-Vachon Residence. My father was still mentally sharp, but physically he was no longer independent. He couldn't get out of bed on his own. That morning, he rang for help. We came, but we don't know how quickly the response was because the wait was sometimes long. In short, that day the nurse arrived, and since his condition was critical, she left him to go to her station and call 911. When she returned, more than 10 minutes later… he had already taken his last breath. Thus, he was left in distress and alone. Apparently, an attendant was at his bedside during the nurse's absence. However, this information was given to us a few days after his death. It doesn't appear in any report. Question: Why didn't they contact emergency services while they were at his bedside? It's inconceivable to abandon someone in distress to seek help in a care home where you pay full price for treatment. Close family members were never allowed to meet the people who cared for my father. We weren't even able to speak to them, not even to soothe our broken hearts and share his final moments. It was as if they wanted to hide something. A care home that's under the Diocese's jurisdiction and doesn't encourage human connection, especially in times of grief...? I don't think that reflects God's will. Everything suggests that my father was abandoned on his journey to death instead of being accompanied and supported, even with just a helping hand and comforting words. I love you, Dad 😘
