My mom has passed now for a few years and I’ve had time to reflect and think about this. This is a place that throws up facades to make you think that things are being done correctly… if I had to do it over again, I would’ve put my mother OK in a public facility and I’m pretty sure that would’ve been better as I stood guard. But this place is always ready to say they’re doing things better than everybody else but it’s a façade. In the end, my mother suffered horribly from a bedsore that they tried to hide from me… They didn’t want me to come in unannounced so that I would not be able to detect what was going. And the bedsore was only the tip of the iceberg.

My mother moved into Sunrise of Beaconsfield in June of 2019 in Assisted Living and, with her advancing Alzheimer’s disease, she eventually moved into the Reminiscence neighbourhood as this area is fully tailored to caring the residents with advanced dementia. She passed away on September 3rd, 2024. Entrusting Sunrise of Beaconsfield with our mother’s care was the best decision my siblings and I made. The entire staff provided great care, a lot of love and nurturing and such respect towards my mother. And having spent quite a bit of time at Sunrise during the 5 years my mother lived there, I witnessed first hand that this is how all the residents are treated. It was very touching and comforting to witness. It was important to us that my mother be able to remain at Sunrise until her death and the team worked hand in hand with us to ensure this was possible providing required comfort care protocols required to keep my mother comfortable as her health deteriorated. The Sunrise team became our mother’s family during the last 5 years of her life, providing day in and day out all the required care that we could not provide. We will be forever grateful to them. It would be unrealistic to think that everything was perfect all of the time but the minor challenges that we may have had to deal with a few times during her 5 years at Sunrise pale in comparison to providing our mother with the best life possible living with the incurable disease that is Alzheimer’s.
