About
The Ivey Eye Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario, is a referral centre for eye disease in Western Ontario offering specialized low vision services and comprehensive eye care for patients with vision loss.
Senior Care Path Summary
The Ivey Eye Institute's Low Vision Clinic serves seniors and adults with vision loss that cannot be corrected by glasses, contact lenses, medication or surgery. The clinic provides functional eye assessments and training in assistive devices tailored to each person's daily needs, helping maintain reading, hobbies and independence.
Low vision services focus on utilizing remaining sight to its fullest potential. Staff evaluate how patients see faces, street signs, newspaper print, and other visual cues essential for daily living, then prescribe and teach use of low vision devices matched to individual needs and interests.
The clinic serves patients from across Western Ontario, including Niagara, Sault Ste Marie and Essex County. Vision loss from macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, stroke and other eye conditions can be evaluated. Some low vision device costs may be partially covered by Ontario's Assistive Devices Program, though examination fees are not OHIP-covered.
St. Joseph's is a world-renowned ophthalmology centre conducting clinical research and training future eye care practitioners. The institute provides comprehensive diagnostic and surgical services alongside dedicated low vision support.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Juncal, Dr. Yin, and Dr. AlKalbani for quite literally saving my vision during a critical emergency. My sincere thanks also go to the emergency team at University Hospital for their swift response and care that set everything in motion. I am also incredibly grateful to the photography technicians, nurses, and administrative staff at the Ivey Eye Institute for their kindness and professionalism. You are all true heroes, and I cannot thank you enough. God bless you all.

My son recently had eye surgery here. Dr. Sheidow was great!! He is very professional, and friendly. He explained everything before and after the procedure. His staff is also so amazing, from the ladies in the office to the nurse, they were awesome!! Thank for making our visit and his care less stressful.

Had cataract surgery, my eyesight is 100% because I went with mono vision lenses. Dr Nicholls was my surgeon. He was amazing. Unfortunately he is retired. My husband will be having surgery. Unfortunately, it’s way too long to wait for OHIP covered surgery which to me is a public healthcare catastrophe. I’m 😓 that we are heading towards a two tier healthcare system. Thanks Mr Ford 😡
