  If you have an elderly relative in here, be cautious, the staff are not so friendly any more, they are not very attentive to your loved ones either. If we had any options of bringing him elsewhere we would, but for the time being we can not move him due to bed shortages. Secondly when you talk to a nurse in regards to care of your relative, they tell you your wrong, and they know best. Yet every time you visit and tend to your relative the nursing staff have not done what they say they do, your relative is in very poor hands. I guess that's why Carewest has been put in front of the health board a few times already in the past. All I can say is take your loved ones out of this place and find a better home elsewhere so you can have peace of mind before its to late.

  My mother has been in the Highlander House wing for dementia care since April 1st and she has been receiving excellent personal care and assistance. Her room is clean, her clothes are clean, her hair and body are regularly washed. Overall, I’ve found the staff to be attentive and happy but the day-to-day staff we interact with (HCAs, laundry and cleaners) have been exceptionally attentive and kind to us and my mother. It can be an overwhelming environment to visit and work in, and we truly appreciate their dedication to their jobs and to the care of the residents. I have also been impressed with the nurses and the doctor we’ve encountered in the past few months. Friendly, easy to talk to and empathetic. The entire staff greets and engages us with a smile and performs their duties with a compassionate demeanour. This is all in stark contrast to where she had been living in the previous year; Eau Claire. Thank you.

  My husband was neglected, I was told he was not a priority due to limited resources. When I arrived every day there was no assistance whatsoever. I was left to take care of my husband, clean my husband get him ready for bed. I fed him on a suppertime. Dementia is an evil disease. There is no dignity and there was no compassion. My husband survived 11 months He fell and broke his hip after I kept telling them my husband had thin bones because of radiation therapy from prostate cancer. It made no difference. My husband died due to their negligence and there I don’t give a care attitude. I was told when my husband was first place there do not assist your husband or else they will leave you to take care of your husband, and the staff left me to take care of my husband no one came when I pulled the cord for assistance it was very rare someone would come I was told there call bell system was not working,many a time I had to go in search for an HCA. when my husband was dying from the fall that broke his left hip3 1/2 days I never moved from my husband‘s bedside except for one hour when they got an HCA to sit beside my husband while I went home and had a shower and I was told to hurry up as she was needed somewhere else. I got one meal offered in that 3 1/2 days .HCA came once to reposition my husband and they rolled him onto his broken hip he moaned in pain that was the last sound he made they did not even follow fall protocol they could not even follow end of life protocol. My husband suffered unnecessarily at the hands of this facility. I know it’s been over a year and I do not know if things have changed, but I do know I would not recommend this facility if you had a loved one with advanced dementia go to this place. My husband had cuts and bruises and no one knew where they came from. My husband lost so many clothes and personal items they didn’t care they put it down to dementia so please be careful.
