Subject: Urgent Concern Regarding Cleanliness at Extendicare Unit Dear Facility Manager’s I am writing to express my deep concern about the cleanliness of the Extendicare unit. The overall state of hygiene is unacceptable, and it is clear that cleaning procedures are not being properly followed. The floors are not being swept before mopping, which results in dirt being spread rather than removed. To make matters worse, only the middle areas are cleaned, leaving noticeable grime along the baseboards. The resident rooms are not properly maintained, with dust accumulating in corners, and the closets are in an even worse condition. This level of neglect is simply unacceptable in a healthcare environment. Whoever is responsible for overseeing cleaning standards is either unaware of the situation or failing to take appropriate action. Additionally, if inspections are being conducted and these issues are not being addressed, it raises serious concerns about the credibility of those certifying the facility. While I understand that staffing shortages may be a challenge, basic cleanliness should never be compromised. I urge you to take immediate action to address these issues, whether it be through better oversight, retraining, or necessary personnel changes. I hope to see a significant improvement soon, as no resident or staff member should have to tolerate these conditions. Sincerely, Luc

My sister has been confined to her room since Friday Sept. 13 because of COVID. She has a great positive attitude and is making the best of the situation. Daytime staff is so caring, and compassionate, however, once they go home and the night staff comes on it's a different ballgame. This might be because they have limited staff. Now my sister has ALS and swallowing has become an issue. She receives her breakfast and lunch in her room and does her best to eat as much as she can. When supper comes she finds her stomach is nauseated and has asked for ONE piece of TOAST with peanut butter and jam. She has been asking for this since last Sunday Sep. 15 and the kitchen staff refuse to make it for her. Several times they have brought a piece of bread and butter. She can't swallow the bread. I spoke to the person above the head nurse and she assured me on Wed. and again on Thurs. that she has made a request to the kitchen to make this 1 piece of toast. I trusted that this would happen. However, this is Friday Sept. 20( a week later) and she hasn't received a toast. That means that she has not had anything to eat for supper for over a week. I called the evening Head Nurse and was told that nothing can be done until I get a call on Monday!!! Really. Does this sound right!!! This does not meet the needs of my sister.
