Most PCAs were great and some LPNs were also excellent - I thank them for the dedication. The business manager was always lovely and responsive as well. When my grandfather first moved in, the resident care coordinator they had at the time was also very good. Food was good quality and there were a lot of great activities and music and the recreation staff were great. The pond is lovely and we loved walking around it together. Communication between staff and families is minimal. When my grandfather first arrived at KP there was a period of three or four months where his medications were dosed improperly several times. I often came in over the course of the 2.5 years to find huge bandages on my grandfather and was never notified (I was his POA). Once he had a black eye and I found that out when I walked in and saw it. There were also at least two times that he fell and no one told me until a staff mentioned it in passing when I was visiting. There were several times I had to request his room be cleaned while he was there because he got missed for the weekly cleaning a couple weeks in. row- but that was the least of our concerns. He passed away last week and no one from management reached out while he was dying to make sure there wasn’t anything they could do, anything we needed , or answer any questions - only the LPN/PCA nursing staff did that. I had to advocate for care I wanted for him that should have been implemented automatically. Communication between staff and different rotations is also not the best, which makes continuity of care hard. I still haven’t heard from anyone in management to offer condolences and he was there for 2.5 years. Overall, our experience was not great, and I hope that these continuous issues are addressed and fixed for other families with loved ones in their care.
