  I spent a few days at Prominence Way a few years ago. I was delighted in every way with the place, the comfort of the suites, the caliber of conversation at mealtimes, the recreational facilities and the quality of the food. One experience, however, did stand out. When their Marketing Manager, Karen Wenzek, happened to pass by, greeting residents, as happened not infrequently, they would be effusive in their praise about how helpful she had been in introducing them and welcoming them to the place where most of them will be spending the rest of their lives. For myself I am about to have the opportunity of spending a few more weeks at Prominence Way due to the necessity of leaving our home because of repairs brought on by an accident that flooded much of our home.

  I can’t speak to the quality of care the residents receive, but I had a very upsetting experience during my visit last weekend. While visiting my grandparents-in-law, the Marketing Manager, Karen, incorrectly assumed I was an employee simply because of my race/appearance. She made a rude comment that I found discriminatory and deeply disrespectful. As a regular visitor to this facility, I believe every guest should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background. No one should be stereotyped or make assumptions based on the color of their skin. This experience left me feeling unwelcome and disappointed.

  My folks have lived at Prominence Way for the past 3 1/2 years for my dad and 4 for my mom. The building is beautiful; recreation staff exceptional. When care is needed they do the best they can except after accepting the responsibility of looking after my dad til he pasted away it was very challenging for the staff to provide the support needed. They are not set up to provide this type of care- I do not understand why they would even offer. The Dr was over heard in the hallway requesting more staff from the nursing Care Manager. I would agree 100%. If pallitive care options are offered more staff needs to be in place. My dad's pain was not managed proactively but rather reactively. It was devastating to watch. Now my mom had a bad fall and is not going back due to needing a higher level of support. It was suggested to us when notice was provided that if we vacated the premise sooner in the month rather than later money could be refunded. We moved her out of within 9 days. There was approximately $900 refund offered for the almost two months she was in hospital but the month of May was charged in full. Very sad business model and not a way to promote business! People pay good dollars and care is expected to be good. Departures are not expected to be a form of robbery. Very very disappointing experience and encourage all to think twice since you could hire private assistance for much less than it costs to live at Prominence Way.
