Both my parents were residents of Southlake Village over the past year. I'm a nurse and braced myself that I would find the care substandard, which is the reputation of long term care. My parents were cognitively intact but required a great deal of physical care, including a hoyer lift. I found Southlake village to be an exemplary facility. I cannot say enough about the staff at the home. My parents came from retirement and did not participate in the activities there. As soon as they arrived to Southlake village, they received such attention and encouragement, they attended the programs. Over the last year they were dong the morning exercise programs, playing bingo, noodle soccer, trivia games, chair yoga and attending music programs. They would tell me of their adventures, and how much they enjoyed them. My mother told me that she loved the morning exercise program, which shocked me, as my mother hated exercise :). The staff made the activities, even exercise, joyful. Whenever I asked about the food, they would state that it was good. They stated the meat was cooked softer than in retirement which they were grateful for. The staff encouraged extra fluids at meals, which I was grateful for as they were both prone to dehydration. My parents acknowledged that when they rang the call bell, it may take the staff some time to answer if they were with another resident. The care was not perfect, but it was close to it. The team at Southlake village made my parents last year the best that it could be. My family are truly grateful.

My Mother was a resident of Southlake LTC Village for a year and a half until her passing. The staff were caring, kind and amazing. The rooms are nice, there is a secure courtyard on the ground floor for sitting and walking with seasonal decorations and flowers in the summer. There is a self-serve cafe and a grand piano in the lobby, which my Mom often played. The home itself has artwork on the walls and color. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a Long Term Care home through the Ministry of Ontario. Thank you Southlake for your care!

I read negative reviews and was very sceptical about this LTC. However, my dad moved to this house 4 weeks ago and so far I have encountered nothing but a positive experience. In regards to the staff as nurses and psws. While there are some that just come to do their jobs, majority however do it with an empathy. We visit my dad almost daily. I see that everybody is being fed when don’t eat on their own. My dad is always clean, shaved, hair brushed. Yes, they can’t give them the love the family can give, but they do provide a good care. There are 6 psws for 32 patients and they need to address the needs of everyone. And as a result, there is a wait time, but not a neglect. In private homes you will receive a psw per 2 patients, but it doesn’t guarantee that your loved one will necessarily receive the empathy you count on but your fee will reflect the ratio. I don’t have anything but words of appreciation to everyone who provides a care to my dad at Southlake village. Thank you everyone for stepping in and providing the care when the family can’t.
