When my mom Antoinette first went into care at The Oxford at the age of 94, she was not interested in participating in activities, not having left her room when she was still living at home either, but the recreation staff persisted in inviting her and encouraging her to attend. So after first arriving in Oct 2023 she refused to go to the Family Christmas party but by the start of 2024 until the end of 2025, she went often to bingo, played word games, did arts and crafts, listened to music with other residents, went to the occasional spiritual service, helped to make a pumpkin pie, regularly sat out on the balcony and even went on a bus outing to look at Christmas lights. We had a great time together with her not only at the Family Christmas party in 2024, but also at the Mother’s Day Tea, and the Hawaiian Family party in 2025. Her door was always decorated on her birthday so everyone would know and could wish her a Happy Birthday. Mom had a lovely room that she could decorate with personal items, and surprisingly had a great view of the Abbotsford Airshow which she enjoyed watching with us from her window each year. The food offered a nice variety and Mom said it was very good and more than she could eat. The care staff were attentive to her needs, and always tried to make her comfortable and at ease, even when Mom did not always want the fuss. When Mom became very ill, the nurse and care staff took extra time and attention to check in on her, encourage her to drink and eat a bit, and ensured that she wasn’t in discomfort. Although my mother recently passed away at age 96, we were very happy that she had been able to spend her last years with so much care and attention at The Oxford.

I value the way my loved one is treated. The care staff treat my mother with love and respect and it is so much appreciated. They also keep my mother engaged and active which she absolutely loves. Having her so happy and comfortable is the most important. Thanks great you so much.

The care staff make an effort to invite my mother to activities, and the encouragement done in the right way means that she has sometimes participates. It makes me happy that they make that effort, and that the right, friendly approach does sometimes payoff. I get to hear about how she won a treat at Bingo, or that someone helped her fill in her card. I also like that my mother is able to have her meals in her room as that tends to be her preference. The meals are very good.excellent
