Late life experience for loved one was not good. Grumpy care giver and they really didn't seem to care when we were picking up things after they had passed. Quite upsetting. This was several years ago and I hope things have improved.

When my mom was showing signs of dementia I realized I had to put her into long term care. I wanted to keep her in a familiar neighborhood, so I checked out all of the homes in the NE. Whitehorn appeared to be the best option. Things were going okay until my mom's condition got worse. My mom was more agitated and became violent. I fully understand that they needed to look out for themselves and others in the home but they repeatedly called the police on her, which to me felt over the top. The dementia care unit in this facility isn't adequate and the staff seems untrained to work with people with varying stages of dementia. They eventually forced me to put her in the hospital where I knew she would ultimately get worse. I was right. She was in the hospital for over a month and my mom was never the same person again. If you have a family member with dementia, please do not put them in this long term care facility.

The dementia care unit of the Whitehorn Village Retirement Home is second to none! The health care workers here are exceptional and truly sincerely care for the residents. We were overwhelmed by the caring and loving atmosphere they created in the unit and in the care they provide to each and every resident. They are very special people to provide the kind care they do.
