I recently completed a 90 day Convalescent care program at this facility due to a fractured Humerus and wrist, also, suffering trauma from the fall that prevented me from walking. The facility was in excellent condition, staff was excellent including the PSW'S, Physiotherapist and Rebecca the manager. The food left a lot to be desired and strange choices. I realize it isn't possible to please everyone but the choices and quality could use a great deal of improving. They claim to have a Chef but he needs to return for further training.

This review is for the WP RETIREMENT home only, the main floor of the building, 110 Lillian Cres, Barrie. (The upper 2 floors are LTC (nursing home)) My mom and I both stayed here this summer for short stays while she was recovering from surgery. We found it to be a very welcoming environment. When we arrived we were treated like celebrities. But soon we became fast friends! For the staff it's not just a job, they truly care about their residents, and appreciate them. The longer we were there they treated us like family, even better. The setting of the Woods Park property is like a sanctuary, a real gem in Barrie. A boutique among retirement homes. We have toured a few, my mother has stayed at another one. This one wins! And it's more affordable too. Possibly because of smaller rooms, but many have walkouts to the beautiful gated gardens. Being a smaller facility, it's more intimate with exceptional personal care. The staff are fun, joyful, compassionate and hardworking. They are an amazing and beautiful team of people who work so well together. Everyone pitches in to help out and go the extra mile. For me it was like an all inclusive resort! The meals were delicious and the portions were generous. (Courtesy of Dale, Mike, Brenden and)We loved the homemade soups at lunch, and special recipes like homemade tourtiere. 😉 Always served with a smile! (By Lisa, Diana, Michelle, Michele, Emilee, Kelsey, Maria, Shurshti, Kumiko, Sheila, Aishwarya, Adilah, Addison, many performing more than one role) Such great conveniences... One stop shopping, from kind and empathetic nurses (Angela, Lydia, Maria and Sarah)(with night time PSWs Bibbi and James) and Dr McConvey, (with lab work done there), to hairdressing (Lisa) and foot care (Amanda) on site. Physiotherapy is available every day (thanks to Kinnari and her excellent team, including Pinal, Praniti and Kenneth) There are regular outings and in-house activities and exercise (Paula, Meghan) Mom was even able to get her walker repaired there at no cost. (Brian) Much of the interior has been updated recently and is kept very well maintained and clean.(Thanks to Maurice and Bruno) It's nice that LTC (nursing home)is on the upper two floors for additional support when necessary. Or for couples when one mate needs more care and the other one can be close by. But everything for the retirement home side is mostly on one level, which can be really helpful for those with memory and confusion issues. We really enjoyed getting to know some of the residents as well and can see why they are so happy there. Even the way they answer the phone, you can tell they are a happy staff! (Kerri, Katherine, Katherine, Cadie, Connor, Mike) Father Don always greeted us with a warm smile. The management was up front and completely transparent about costs, and the prices are very fair and reasonable. So, a great big THANK YOU to Caron Wyers and her amazing staff!!!

I had to make a decision for my Mom, who had Alzheimer's at the beginning of the pandemic 4 years ago. I had to choose a long term care home based on very little information, no tours, no meeting of any kind, just pamphlets that I had collected. It was an urgent/emergency situation and I was given a "take it or leave it" option from the CCAC. Choosing Woods Park was the absolute worst decision of my entire life and one I have deep regret for but under the circumstances I had no choice. When I would go visit Mom, there would be residence in the hallways, walking, sitting etc and as I walked by I would greet them with a simple smile, good morning, hello, beautiful weather chit chat. They live everyday for acknowledgement, care and compassion. The staff on the other hand (if you saw any in the halls) would walk by, head down, on their phones, no acknowledgement to these people. It's very sad. It was all confirmed to me through different support groups that other people got that same vibe from this place. I'm not going to go into great detail of the many events but here is my synopsis in a few point form notes. 1) No care or compassion from most staff 2) Most staff are not friendly, very few actually care (it's a job and that is all, a pay cheque) 3) Some staff are incompetent 4) Constantly following up to ensure things got done 5)Staff are never around, you can walk the entire hallway and see no employees. Ring a call bell - good luck!! 6) Things do missing (clothes, shoes, dentures, jewelry etc) and NO-ONE cares. I had to ask if posters could be placed up (which never happened) for my Mom's wedding rings that went missing. I also asked if they could speak to other family members of the residence if they could check rooms for the rings (as with most Dementia/Alzheimer's they like to hide things) that wasn't done either because I asked some family members if they had been approached and no-one spoke to them about it. I reached out to maintenance no-one else did. Because no-one CARES!! Some of my complaints (I walked the hall with a black X on my back in which I didn't care) I was named to the staff, because the staff had the audacity to call me out on certain things. (which was a breach of privacy). I advocated not only for my Mom but everyone in there. I had frequently asked staff, especially the ones that rolled their eyes at me when I would ask for things, "you think it's ok for staff to treat your loved one like this?" Funny they never answered. Anyways I could go on for pages but I will not. I will leave you with this final paragraph for you to figure out whether this would be a place for your loved one. The evening that my Mom passed away, was the first time I actually witnessed care, compassion and dignity. It came from one lady (I would gladly name her but I emailed to ask for her name and to date no-one has answered me) who genuinely cared for Mom and for you I am thankful and grateful. It was the treatment that my Mom deserved for the last 4 years of her blessed life. I walked out of Woods Park to never hear from them again! I never heard a single condolence from staff, Executive Director, Director of Care, after 4 years this is how things end...............So if anything just read my last paragraph and come to your own conclusion on this place! DO NOT PLACE YOUR FAMILY MEMEBER HERE!
