About

Vista Eyecare is an independent, locally owned full-scope optometric practice serving Victoria and Saanich for over 40 years. They specialize in comprehensive eye exams and low vision care for seniors and older adults.

Senior Care Path Summary

Vista Eyecare is a full-service optometry clinic deeply committed to accessibility for older adults and those with mobility challenges. The practice features a wheelchair-accessible exam room, an elevator for convenience, and free parking. Staff ask about mobility requirements when booking to ensure each patient receives personalized accommodation.

Dr. Gabriela Camorlinga provides specialized Low Vision Rehabilitation services, among very few practitioners offering this expertise on Vancouver Island. Low vision assessments begin with a complimentary telemedicine consultation with Dr. Camorlinga, followed by an in-person evaluation lasting 60 to 120 minutes. This appointment includes a thorough assessment of visual function, goal-setting tailored to the individual's daily activities, and training with appropriate low vision devices.

Vista Eyecare offers training on a range of low vision aids from respected brands including Humanware and Eschenbach. The clinic's philosophy is to maximize remaining functional vision and support seniors in tasks like reading, writing, and daily activities through the right tools and environmental adjustments. The in-person low vision assessment is $175. Some private insurance may cover services and devices, though coverage varies by plan.

The practice has operated under its current name for 40 years and is rooted in the Victoria community. Staff are friendly and well-trained, and the clinic remains committed to providing individualized care for patients of all ages.

Dr. Dukelow and the staff at Vista Eye Care are exceptional. I feel as though my eyes and my eyesight are in the best of care. My routine eye exam lasted for about 90 minutes, because every test was thorough. I highly recommend them for professional eye care. Warm regards Bill James

I had such a wonderful experience at Vista Eye Care. The entire team is incredibly friendly, kind, and welcoming from the moment you walk in. I especially want to thank Dr. Kirsten Dukelow and Sophie, who were both absolutely amazing throughout my visits. For most of my life, I believed contact lenses just weren’t an option for me. Over the decades I’ve tried multiple brands on several different occasions, hoping to find something that would work, but nothing ever did. Dr. Dukelow and Sophie recommended that I try their dry eye treatment, and it honestly changed everything. The process was relatively quick and easy, and both Dr. Dukelow and Sophie were extremely informative the entire time. They made sure I understood every step and always made me feel comfortable and cared for. Thanks to their help, I can now wear contact lenses comfortably, something I never thought would be possible. They’re so comfortable that I often forget I’m even wearing them. Having the freedom to go without glasses has been amazing. I can now watch my daughter dance and my son play hockey without worrying about having my glasses with me. I’m so grateful to Dr. Dukelow, Sophie, and the wonderful staff at Vista Eye Care for giving me that freedom. I truly can’t recommend them enough!

Excellent eyecare facility. The staff are always wonderful, patient, and kind. They always seem available to help, and appointments have always started on time with little to no waiting. Would give them more stars if I could.
