Senior Care Path Summary

RAD Renovations, part of Accessible Housing's community programs since 1997, offers comprehensive accessibility solutions for seniors and people with limited mobility in Calgary and surrounding areas. Their team includes Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certified professionals who conduct in-home assessments and provide detailed Accessibility Recommendations Reports with construction feasibility guidance.

The program coordinates the complete renovation journey from consultation through project completion. Services include space assessment, funding application assistance for programs like RAMP and SHARP, CMHC attestation, design drawings, blueprint reviews, and full renovation coordination. RAD has completed 77 stair lifts, 94 barrier-free showers, 17 ramps, and 87 porch lifts.

RAD can help seniors understand renovation timelines and accessibility codes, simplifying an often overwhelming process. As a non-profit, all proceeds return to the program to help fund renovations for low-income community members, making aging-in-place more affordable for those who need it most.

My good friend of over 40 years lives at mustard seed housing. He had horrific time with body lice and bed bugs that took them so long to take care of that being diabetic he almost lpst his legs. Now they have the caseworker Shawn going into his place and throwing away what ever he wants..examples gifts he bought for christmas for family..presents he bought friends..food. The reason is given because he hoards. But hoarding is a psychological mental illness. Throwing away gifts and other important things is traumatizing. There is therapy for hoarding. This man lost so much...a former vetran. He was working but when it came to renewing his licence because of a 30 year old Ontario ticket as a result he lost his job and home. He is very passive. Its no fair his caseworker is not treating him with empathy. He has done some good things but perhaps needs more mental health education when dealing with elderly and handicapped ( which my friend had a stroke couple years ago that left him disabled)
