Costco for Seniors in Canada: Senior Hours, Discounts, Hearing Aids and Pharmacy
Costco Canada has no senior hours or senior discount in 2026, but its hearing aid centres, pharmacy and delivery are genuinely useful for older members. The hours, membership costs and services, checked October 2026.
Costco has no senior hours, senior day or senior discount in Canada in 2026. Its special shopping hours for members 60 and older ended on April 18, 2022, and membership costs the same at every age ($65 a year for Gold Star, $130 for Executive). What Costco does offer older members is three useful services: Hearing Aid Centres with a free hearing test and a 180-day trial, a pharmacy that ships refills free in participating provinces, and delivery for heavy shopping.
Everything below was checked against Costco and its partners on October 1, 2026.
If you're helping a parent who still loves their Costco runs, these are the parts worth knowing. They can keep the habit going long after the big weekly trip gets tiring.
Does Costco have senior hours in Canada?
No. Costco ended its special shopping hours for members 60 and older, healthcare workers and first responders on April 18, 2022, according to Costco.ca's notice at the time. Those hours (Tuesday and Thursday, 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. in the last stretch) were a pandemic measure.
Today every member shops the same hours, and Canadian warehouses list no separate Executive hours:
| Monday to Friday | Saturday and Sunday | |
|---|---|---|
| Warehouse | 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. | 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. |
| Gas station | 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. | 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. |
Holiday closures differ by date and warehouse. Cost Check keeps a dated breakdown of Costco hours in Canada, including the 2026 holiday list.
What's the best time for seniors to shop at Costco?
Weekday mornings, right at opening. In our experience, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. from Tuesday to Thursday is the closest thing to the old senior hour: shorter lines, fuller shelves and parking near the doors. Weekends are the busiest by far.
A few small things make the trip easier: park near a cart corral (a cart doubles as a walker), ask at the entrance about electric carts since availability varies by warehouse, and fill up on gas first, as the pumps open at 6:00 a.m. These are tips from experience, not Costco policy.
Does Costco have a senior discount in Canada?
No. There's no seniors' membership rate, seniors' day or age-based price cut. Membership costs the same at every age; fees last rose on September 1, 2024:
| Membership | Yearly fee (before tax) | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Star | $65 | Warehouses, gas, Costco.ca, a free household card |
| Executive | $130 | Everything in Gold Star, plus a 2% yearly reward (up to $1,250) |
Is Executive worth it for a senior? Usually not on a retirement budget. It breaks even only above about $3,250 a year of eligible spending, and pharmacy, gas and food court purchases don't count toward the 2% reward. Start with Gold Star and upgrade later if your receipts justify it.
The free household card covers someone 16 or older at the same address, such as a spouse. And Costco will "cancel and refund your membership fee at any time if you are dissatisfied," which is handy after a move into a retirement home with meals included. Cost Check compares every tier in its Costco membership price guide.
Are Costco hearing aids good for seniors?
For many older adults, yes. They're one of the best-value ways to get hearing aids in Canada, mainly because of what comes with them:
| Included with Costco hearing aids | Detail |
|---|---|
| Hearing test | Complimentary, no obligation |
| Trial period | 180 days |
| Loss and damage coverage | Complimentary, no deductible |
| Follow-ups, cleaning, check-ups | Complimentary |
| Warranty | Complimentary, length varies by model |
That 180-day trial is the standout. Use it fully: wear the aids at the dinner table, in the car and at church or the community centre, then go back for adjustments before deciding.
Cost Check has a clear breakdown of Costco hearing aids in Canada, and our own hearing aids in Canada guide compares Costco with clinics and provincial funding. In Quebec, only an audiologist can recommend hearing aids, so the process there starts with one.
Can seniors use Costco pharmacy?
Yes, and it's often easier than people expect. Costco pharmacies fill and transfer prescriptions in the warehouse, and Costcopharmacy.ca ships refills free in 2 to 5 business days by Canada Post in participating provinces.
A few things to know before switching:
- Transfers are simple. Costco accepts prescriptions from other pharmacies, in person or online.
- Ask for the total price. Drug costs depend on the drug, the province and your coverage, so ask for the full amount including the dispensing fee and compare it.
- Membership rules vary. Pharmacy access is set provincially. Call your warehouse pharmacy before going in without a card.
- No same-day delivery. Prescriptions are excluded from Costco's same-day delivery, so use the online pharmacy instead.
The details are on Cost Check's Costco pharmacy in Canada page. If your parent takes several medications, a pharmacist's blister packs matter more than where they're filled. Our medication management guide explains how to set that up.
Can Costco deliver to seniors?
Yes. Costco.ca delivers many warehouse items, and same-day delivery is available in many areas for groceries and household goods. For a senior who still likes Costco prices but can't lift a case of water anymore, that's often the best of both.
If a parent isn't comfortable ordering online, an adult child can place the order to the parent's address. It's a small, practical way to help from a distance.
How can family help a parent keep shopping at Costco?
Start with the parts that are hardest: driving, carrying and long walks. If you live together, the household card lets you shop on one membership. If you live apart, shopping for both homes on one trip is usually easiest.
When trips get harder, a companion care visit can cover the drive and the heavy lifting. Our companion care for seniors resource explains what it costs, and many home care agencies in Toronto and other cities book errand visits by the hour.
And if money is tight, make sure your parent is getting the Guaranteed Income Supplement if they qualify. It's worth far more than any store discount.
Frequently asked questions
Does Costco still have senior hours in Canada?

Is Costco Executive membership worth it for seniors?
