I recently moved my mother from Toronto to Stoney Creek, and on move-in day I was completely overwhelmed. From start to finish, the staff showed patience, kindness, understanding, and genuine care. The food is above average, and the staff are absolutely wonderful. What began as a very stressful experience has turned into one filled with gratitude and true peace of mind. She is truly thankful to be there and I am so incredibly grateful to all the amazing staff. Thank you, thank you thank you!

if i could give this place 0 stars i would, my grandmother, who was 100 years old at the time, was in amica for 2 years before practically being kicked out because the place which we paid $3,500 a month for (amica) could not “handle” her because she developed UTI’s, and as a result of that she acted out and demonstrated some risky behaviour towards staff and other people in the home (ex. leaving the home and walking places she shouldn’t, swinging her cane at others) she is 100 years old, what damage could she possibly do to others that are of that great danger? she is not going to kill or hurt anyone. she was very aware and had excellent overall health considering her age , 90% of the time she was calm, compassionate, quiet, minded her business, she didn’t care for friends in the home, she just minded her own. we originally wanted her in amica because it was nice and modern and gave “homey vibes”, she was not ready for a nursing home as her mental and cognitive state did not indicate any concerns, other then her UTIs, we thought amica would give her a better quality of life for what would have been her last few years. they gave me and my family a phone call, and said that because this is the second time she acted out, we would option 1. need to pay for 24 hour care for her, which they told us would be 40$/hour, that’s $960/day. $960 A DAY, $6,720 a week, her pension came nowhere even remotely close to being able to pay this, any person in their right mind would think this is ridiculous. so on top of 3.5k a month we would have to pay an additional $26,880 a month just to have our loved one looked after. she did not need 24 hour care, as her UTIs only happened 3-4 times out of the 30 day month, their second option was that we move her out immediately to avoid any 24 hour care fees , we had no choice but to go with the second option; the same day we got this phone call, we brought her home , she lived with us 2 years prior , so all of her furniture (bed, dressers) were at amica, so we made the couch comfortable for her and my mom and dad took turns watching her throughout that night because she was going through a UTI, it wasn’t until one of my parents stepped out to go to the bathroom, that my grandmother had woken up from the couch and fallen down our stairs, from the top stair to the bottom, our home was not ready or equipped, amica gave us no mercy in helping out and keeping her for a few more days at least so we could set our home up for her the way she needed. she was taken to the hospital immediately , and remained their for a few months before receiving at spot at Madison Village long term care facility just a few blocks over, where the staff was just unreal, some of the most kind hearted people i’ve ever met worked there, far more compassionate then anyone me or my family have ever interacted with at amica, who made my whole family feel like my grandmother was some burden being there. at madison village, despite the staffs tremendous efforts in tending to my grandmothers needs, she deteriorated greatly due to her fall (which we already knew was going to happen, it couldn’t be avoided), and her body not being able to keep up with the damage she suffered, i was not planning on writing this review, but as of december 28th she passed away, and i want people who have older parents/grandparents to be aware that this place will refuse to care for your loved ones if they are not 100% mentally/cognitively functional as most of the other members were. if you have family members (parents/grandparents) who are begging you not to put them in a nursing home, and who wanted something more comfortable, i beg you DO NOT put them in Amica Stoney Creek. your better off searching for other options. i believe if amica did not kick my grandmother out and make my family pick between paying an additional $26,000 a month to give her 24 hour care, that she would have lived for a few more healthy, happy, and comfortable years. i hope the person who was in charge of this decision feels ashamed of their lack of compassion and remorse.
