Most of the staff were horrible but the few good ones were amazing and good at their job. One big concern I would have would be the fact that their staff aren’t always aware of their keys. I got a hold of the medical staff’s keys with all of the keys to the medical cupboards, including the medication‘s and entire health room she left them sitting in a conman space luckily I wanted nothing to do with any of the medication‘s or dangerous stuff. I just wanted to be able to have access to get in and out freely. I also feel that the methods used aren’t affective for a lot of people. I feel that a lot of the staff are just on a power trip or at least when I was there they were. Over all would not recommend the living situation, but the schooling was actually pretty good.

What an incredible journey it has been. To sit here and find the appropriate words to describe how incredible the program is and how amazing the staff is, can’t be described in words. It’s just impossible. Although we feel such a loss as our son graduated starling program today and we move forward into the real world. We also know the takeaway is so much more. The starling program is so well organized. It was packed full of tools that our child uses everyday now and will bring with him into the future. Watching my little starling spread his wings today on his last day was such a proud moment. I also wanted to point out, that starling truly has a gift when picking their staff. Every single person we have met and worked with along the way were the absolute best people. They cared. They put so much detail, effort, compassion, understanding, empathy, love and passion into caring for all the starling children. This is what tears me apart. To not see them everyday and have that same support system moving forward is going to be so hard. I will truly miss all of your faces and hearing all your voices. We are blessed to have been part of the starling family for 10 months. Thank you for the incredible experience. We will have a very special place in our hearts forever for you all.

My child was a part of the Birchlands Step up, Step down treatment program and I can't be more thankful. All the staff gave my child a place to be who they are and be accepted. They gave my child the tools they need to manage life and gave them the confidence to push themselves to finish school. Some days were definitely harder than others but with the help of the staff and their teacher, they persevered! Thank you to all the staff involved with the first resident of the Birchlands program, you all helped a bright person be seen!
