I've been suffering from severe dry eyes and neuropathic pain symptoms since April 2024 after a lid surgery from an Oculoplastic Surgeon in downtown Toronto who neglected to warn about the risks of chronic dry eyes. I visited every single advertised dry eye specialist in the city with absolutely no success, in fact, I had gotten worse as time progressed. Not to mention the enormous costs endured for the procedures. I was at the end of my rope, however, a lovely new friend of mine who traveled in the same circles, strongly suggested I contact Dr. E, she advised me of her honesty, integrity and her utmost attention to patients. Well this statement was absolutely correct, Dr. E examined me extensively. My glands were severely blocked but before recommending extensive treatments, she prescribed 20mg of doxicycline to open up my glands. She asked to see me back in a couple of weeks for an ipl to follow my gland expressions, within 2 weeks my glands were gushing oil and have continued to improve since. She also made arrangements for me to have a confocal in Montreal to provide feedback on the pain component which proved to be very beneficial. The confocal confirmed an abundance of inflammation that wasn't effectly controlled. She started me on lotemax taper, but because I am a steroid responder, she was very addement about weekly pressure checks, in fact, I again was a steroid responder and she quickly and efficiently lowered my dose. May I also add, she was the very first optometrist to confirm that my eyes closed but didn't seal which caused severe nocturnal lagophthalmos. Again, caused by the skin removal from the blethloplasty. To date I've had 2 confocals at the University of Montreal with a third scheduled in October. Dr. E also sent me to see another surgeon regarding the pain and possible lagophthalmos treatment. It's been approximately 10 months since my first appointment and she never fails to impress me. Do not expect a waiting room filled with patients. She doesn't bounce around from office to office all for the sake of the evil almighty dollar. She also has a minimal social media presence, why is that? Because she's too busy taking care of patients! During my last appointment, her next patient had arrived, I stood up to leave but Dr. E had me sit again, she said there were a few more issues she needed to review with me, again, commitment to patient care! This office is not a money mill, its about a caring, loving Optometrist that wants nothing but health and wellness for each and every one of her patients. She refuses to provide expensive treatments that won't work. I discussed the amniotic membrane I received with another provider, the only am available in Canada, they are extremely expensive I paid $1700 for the Oxgenix brand unfortunately, they did absolutely nothing for me and there is no evidence to support any benefits for neuropathic pain; Dr. E didn't recommend it again, she didn't want me to waste more hard earned money on a wish and a prayer. The only membranes that have studied supported benefits are used in the United states, Canada doesn't offer them. After 3 previous optometrists, I finally found my forever eye Doctor. Dr E, Thank you for taking care of me! Your staff are so very efficient they call me multiple times to confirm pickup of drops, medications etc. and Dr. E treats them with so much respect and appreciation for their hard work, it's clear how much they love their job.
