My father will be 100 years old in a couple of weeks and resides in the Atrium. The Atrium takes amazing care of him. They are flexible and accommodating with his needs as they change from time to time. He raves about the food and the snack cart that comes around a couple of times daily. They have many activities and do a wonderful job encouraging participation. They had a very nice ceremony honouring my father this past Veterans Day The Atrium is a wonderful place for an elderly relative to live. Not institutional at all. You own apartment with common areas, just perfect.

In November of 2023, our family, including our Dad (Papa), and various professionals came to the decision that it was time to move on from independent retirement living, to a “home” offering more graduated services and supports, without losing some sense of independence. After reviewing several options, we came to consensus that the Atrium Retirement Residence was the best option as we transitioned through the passage of time with our then 94 year old Papa. The Atrium became a “home” very quickly! The residence is all on one level, an open concept with lots of sunshine, and the pleasant sounds of budgie birds, and soft music as you enter the facility. The decor is home like with various wooden cupboards holding tea cups and saucers, beautiful dishes and all the things you can recall being at your grandparents home. A very warm, comforting, and continuous friendly atmosphere is found at the Atrium. The Atrium staff, volunteers, helpers were so kind, supportive and most importantly responsive with a focus on open communication with the resident and their family. The staff very quickly were understanding and responding to Papa’s personality, appreciating his spontaneous whims to break out in song, like “a bicycle built for two”, or a hymn he once sang in the church choir for which he was a member. Knowing individual residents was important to us as a family! While on an outside excursion with Papas family on his 95 birthday, an unusual and unexpected event occurred. As we were working through this, the staff remained engaged, as we checked in with each other determining best next steps. As the occurrence came to a positive conclusion, the staff including the Health and Wellness Manager and the General Manager of the Atrium were there to greet us. Cheers of Happy Birthday to Papa were heard as we were finally “home”. Hot coffee, birthday meal all ready for him as the staff gathered round, long after some staff should have been at their home. Very precious memory. All I can say about the Atrium is YES, I would recommend this residence to families who are looking for independent living for a family member, but still would like something a little more intimate, access to more supports and services, and not so apartment like.

Writing to say how happy we are as a family with the care our father is receiving at the Atrium in orillia. Our dad has been a resident at the atrium since August 2024 as well he had a respite stay November 2023 previous to that for 1 month. The care he has received has been excellent. The PSW’s are very caring and really get to know the residents well. The nursing care as well has been top notch. My dad has made friends and is socially more active ( at 95) than he has been in years. Can’t say anything negative - only positive things have been our experience! When reaching out for help - be it nursing care or maintenance issue - things are always attended to promptly. My dad is very happy at the atrium and that is what matters.
