This is a great facility for your loved one. However, there is absolutely no visitor parking.

My Mom was a resident at Bendale for almost 17 months. Friendly staff, many whom I had good interactions with. Hard workers, clean environment, effective in keeping Covid out of the home especially during the worst of the pandemic. High vaccination rates for staff and residents. For the most part a good place to have your loved one. Why not 5 stars? Well, for starters, twice, staff members broke patient / client confidentiality by allowing unauthorized persons access to my Mom's wing via a phone call after instructions were told to strictly not allow this. They apologized but the damage was done. Staff on her wing also allowed my Mom's toenails to grow too long which caused toe fungus and as a result I had to pay $116 for the medication to get rid of it. Why and how was this overlooked by staff when they would shower her, put on her socks and shoes? i was never told of this and found out when, by accident, my Mom kicked her shoe off and I saw it. Unacceptable. Mom recently passed and while I was moving her things out, staff wanted me to inform them when the visitation would be. When the date was confirmed, I told staff on her wing at 2 West and was VERY disappointed when no one showed up to pay respects. Not 1 person. I understand people are busy with their lives, schedules, etc. including work, but stopping by for 5 mins to pay respect for the resident that you cared for over a year and a half and made you smile would've made a world of a difference. The funeral home is ironically 10 mins East of Bendale Acres on Lawrence E. I lost a lot of respect for them after that. One last thing were the few staff on her wing who were not vaccinated. 1 Anti-Vaxxer staff member blatantly told me she wasn't getting her shot and advised me not to let my Mom get it (Mom did get vaccinated) I find it highly disturbing as well as careless that a worker caring for your loved one would actually tell me this. To make matters worse, this was during the worst time during the pandemic when numbers were sky high. Unbelievable how someone working in this profession could feel this way especially having close contact with your loved one. I could've reported this person, but didn't, seeing that she still had to care for my Mom which could've caused problems in her care going forward. I did lose respect for her after that As i write this, thankfully her and other colleagues, who are Anti-Vaxxers will be mandated to get their shot or look for employment elsewhere. For the most part Bendale treated my Mom well. They weathered the storm through a tough time with Covid and i commend them for the hard work all employees have to endure on a daily basis, but some work still needs to be done in my opinion to make it a top notch Long Term Care Home.
