  This review is long overdue. My father lived at Shepherd Village Manor for one year, and unfortunately, our experience was nothing close to Shepherd Village's stated vision: "To be a continuum of care within a Christian community where seniors can flourish and find peace." There was nothing peaceful or Christian about our experience. In fact, I was more stressed during the year my father lived here than at any other time. If you're looking for a residence for your parent or loved one, I would strongly encourage you to explore other options. There are far better places out there. One of the most concerning issues was an ongoing cockroach issue that my father had to deal with throughout his stay at the Manor. This was especially troubling given his numerous health challenges, including heart and kidney issues, and dementia. The last thing any senior, family member, or visitor should have to worry about is exposure to pests and the health risks they bring. Another disappointment was the social environment among some residents. While some residents were kind and welcoming, we encountered a group of residents at the Manor who were cliquish and very unkind towards others. If you were not part of the "Manor Crew" or did not have established friendships, it could be a very uncomfortable, lonely and sad environment to be in. Age does not always guarantee kindness, and unfortunately some residents were quite vindictive. I found the Director of Facility Services, Mario G., particularly difficult to work with toward the end of my father's tenancy. I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously and that, at that point, there was little interest in addressing them. Instead, it seemed the priority was simply to have my father out of the Manor altogether. I also found Mario to be unhelpful during the move out process, which only added unnecessary stress during an already difficult time for me as I was the only family member helping my father My concerns to the Facilities Manager, Coseta R. were also never addressed, despite multiple emails requesting assistance and follow-up. The lack of communication and responsiveness significantly contributed to our overall dissatisfaction. Looking back, I wish I had read more reviews before moving my father into Shepherd Manor. Based on our experience, I would not recommend it to families seeking a supportive, peaceful, and caring environment for their loved ones.

  In 1998, I came in contact with The Pentecostal Benevolent Association of Ontario (today’s Shepherd Village) through my work assignment. I met the Management Team of that time and was very impressed with their vision in providing accommodation to senior community with different requirements: independent living, assisted living, renting, life lease, and long-term care. I have been dreaming to live in such a community one day. I have finally reached the retirement age so I called Michelle Uniacke, Sales and Marketing Manager for an appointment. She was so patience to explain the life lease model, the governance and financial status of Shepherd Gardens. She provided me and my wife with sufficient information to decide whether Shepherd Garden would be our new home. We were at the right timing to acquire one of the units. Well before the purchase closing day, Michele met with us to go through policies and documents to get us well prepared. Whenever we come up with questions, Michelle is there to answer, to support and to guide us through. She is not just a staff at Shepherd Village, but also a best companion for seniors who are in the journey of moving to their new home at the Shepherd Village.

  Working with Michelle was very smooth experience, and she helped in all the way of selling my clients unit in this building. She was very cooperative and accomodative. I appreciate the way she took care of every resident and real estate agents. Thank you!
