The staff physically assaulted my mother, are lazy, incompetent and unwilling to compromise on almost anything. They belittle you and are condescending to residents and family members alike. Management is lazy and incompetent and rarely lifts a finger to address any complaints. The facility itself is amazing, but staff is sub-par at best.

The management team here is very dishonest and manipulative. Under NO circumstances allow your loved ones to become or remain a resident there, nor at any of the facilities their parent company, Park Park Seniors Living facilities, (across Canada). These people habitually ignore and break the Provincial standards, legalities and accepted practices for long term care as per Provincial laws and regulations. Head office backs them up. When confronted with questionable practices at Benevolence the No. 2 executive at Park Place Seniors Living deflected any complaint nor could they be bothered to investigate serious issues at Benevolence. The care manager of Benevolence at the my Mother was there even went so far as to blatantly lie and be deceitful whilst under oath in a Court of Law...with no repercussions. The same can be said for some of Benevolence's leading staff: quick to lie, failure to take responsibility for their actions, nor even being honest and truthful to their superiors at Benevolence. It seems that these provincially funded long term care facilities are 'in bed' with Alberta Health Services. In my experiences, these two entities in conclusion belittled any concerns I had as per my Mother's care at Benevolence. I have even come across emails between the previous care manager, Benevolence and Alberta Health Services complaint employee joking and conspiring to 'sweep everything under the rug' so to speak. When confronted with a disagreement between the care manager and myself, I was issued a 'No Trespassing' notice. This practice is illegal in Ontario and other Provinces in Canada. In Alberta? Government has been confronted for 10+ years, stating they would change the law. Today is Oct. 2024. No movement to protect vulnerable seniors has yet to be taken, neither by new laws nor enforcement of current Provincial standards. Alerting both the former and current Health Ministers basically 'fell on deaf ears.' Ditto for the Premier's office. I believe that if these situations had been brought to Premier Smith's attention, some type of action and reforming would have commenced. It seems that 'someone' over there is working an agenda not in the best interests of Albertans nor the most vulnerable seniors of our Province. I had been barred by attending to and visiting with my Dear Mother for 2 years under their B.S. 'No Trespassing' ban. My only visitations with her commenced after she was emergency admitted to hospital, suffering from a bacterial pneumonia lung infection. The emergency room doctor that attended to my Dear Mother informed me that Benevolence had told him that my Dear Mother had not eaten in 1 month. Why was I not informed from Benevolence directly? Weekly 'health and wellness' emails from Benevolence's 'social director' read exactly the same words every week: "...your mother fine, healthy and happy...." They were re-sending the same email to me every week! My Mother remained in the hospital until her 'passing' exactly 3 months later. She never recovered consciousness. I visited with her daily. If you have any concerns vis-a-vis your loved residing at Benevolence or any facility owned/managed by Park Place Seniors Living, "get a lawyer." So called 'seniors advocates' in Edmonton were all talk or complete 'non interested' in actually putting 'feet to their words.' This kind of stuff has to 'stop' in Alberta....but what do you expect in a Province that relishes in going after Christian ministers, using the full weight of the Provincial Government to harass, 'threaten' and actively going after Christian ministers and practitioners, prosecuting them in Court, throwing them in jail and trampling all over their legal rights under the Canadian Constitution and Canadian Bill of Rights. We don't need any more 'lip service.' We need 'actions' to correct and reign in there despicable acts. That's it. "That's all she wrote." (...well I don't know who the heck 'she' is, but she doesn't seem to be much of a writer....). M.
