My 90 year old Mother was recently transferred from the UofA Hospital to the Norwood to recover from major hip surgery. As I walked into her room I was greeted by her nurse- Wow! extremely friendly and professional- A big shout out to Allyn and thank you for being so kind and caring.

My husband died on Sept 10, 2025 but we weren't notified by the staff. We only found out 6 days later when we went to visit again and there were different people in his room. That's when we found out.

It's hard to write a review because being critical and being thankful are opposites, but I am feeling both. The facility is very nice and the people working are trying. What I think is happening is that they are short staffed and overworked and some of the fine tuning for how things happen here needs to be addressed. My review is for fourth floor (hospice). When you are dealing with vulnerable patients and families, long call button response times, 5 days before an ordered x-ray occurs, and the scarcity of assistance at times is tough. Without patient advocates I would imagine some of our older people are not getting the attention they deserve. I ended up staying overnight most days and MY person was actually able to speak for themselves. We had a very rough start at this facility. Lost hearing aid, our person sitting in soiled underpants, and I find it unacceptable to wait 5 days for an xray. After several days a staff member commented, " Oh, she has her own teeth?". How come there's no sign by their name plate that states hearing aids worn, dentures, glasses???? My person wanted to brush their teeth twice a day. Some kind of education for the family through video on what to expect would be nice. You actually very seldom see the doctor, and nobody tells you what their title is. After a few days you figure out that this is the HCA, this is the nurse, etc. I also heard a lot of "Sorry," when I complained about the lack of staff on weekends. But sorry is not action. We have to do better so families and patients can feel confident that this facility is the best place for the end of life phase. Some of the issues could be solved easily. Put a section on the white board in the room stating information for the day. That being said, things did get better after I got upset. And I am thankful and grateful for that. I only wish that we hadn't entered the facility on a Thursday (weekends you really feel on your own here). Although I see room for improvement I still want to say may God bless all of the people who are working here. Funding restraints are likely to blame. It is not a job most people would love, but it is essential to treat our most vulnerable well.
