At end of life the care is great, the facility is clean and the staff made my fathers last few months so much more bearable. Hats off to the staff at the facility. Such a hard job and the staff did it all with good spirits and a smile.

On its face, Creekstone is a shinny new facility, privately operated under VCH contract. While they meet on-paper ministry standards, behind the curtain is a total mess: staff storages, compromised care due to inconsistent or no communication across staff, nice words Vs actual accountability, all backed by a health authority who is very protective of its relationship with the provider. This is a classic case where if VCH was not involved and the provider has an actual board of directors, a 3rd party would be brought in to take over care and restructure all processes. But VCH protects Trellis and Trellis has full license to shift staff to their Sunshine Coast facility to plug gaps, all permitted under their license. I would recommend doing some spot checks yourself: see if you can even find anyone in management around. Try weekends and evenings, you might be lucky to find 1 care aid on the floor. Who knows where they are. The phone system to the nursing stations was broken for 6 months, the fridge broken for 2 weeks, rotating nurses who said they were too busy to check for UTIs, OTs who never respond, social work took 8 months to organize a care conference, the in-house doctor hangs up on you and doesn't even respond in emergencies (he doesn't like late night calls apparently)... to name a few examples. The bottom line: if you plan to dump your loved one here, especially if they are challenged by mental health, they will likely never know how badly run this place is. But if you plan to be engaged as a family member, hate platitudes and inaction and want better patient outcomes, then simply don't come here. And beware: some management personnel will tell you that they are your family's advocate -- but in fact, they do nothing and when they are caught with evidence lying, they don't get fired. Now some individual care staff onsite are lovely and caring, but note that they are all sub-contracted so there's no direct accountability. And the staff who are good sadly leave or quit looking for better managed facilities. Even the salon operator could not take it anymore and left. In 6 months, 6 nursing and care staff quit, 5 Directors/management quit or left. You know what high turnover means in an organizational context. You will reduce your stress as a caregiver by simply going elsewhere. And if you loved one is there, keep asking questions, hold management accountable and do not hesitate to file VCH investigations so a formal record is established. Since I appealed to VCH for help to get my family member transferred out of here, all her medical conditions dramatically improved at her health authority run facility. Care there comes first, no management turnover, no lying staff, and even with the bureaucracy that exists, the management actually communicate and work together for better patience outcomes.

I have had the opportunity to experience the wonderful environment in this facility, and it's truly a place that stands out. The place is not only modern and thoughtfully laid out for comfort and privacy but is also superbly managed. The management team excels through their empathetic approach and proactive engagement, ensuring that both residents and staff feel supported and valued. This is visible in the wide range of activities available, such as the Tandem Bike programs and festive events like gingerbread house building, which show their commitment to resident engagement and quality of life. The dining experience, featuring freshly prepared home-style meals that cater to all dietary needs, further reflects the management's meticulous attention to residents' health and happiness. This facility combines empathetic management, quality care, and a beautiful setting, making it an excellent long-term care home.
