My grandma has been here for 5 years, at the beginning it was great but the last 2 years she has been in and out of the hospital due to dehydration. The staff there are not helpful anymore, they don’t help her with lifting a glass to drink. The place also smells like mold or musky, also her stuff has been going missing like her $800 glasses that we had replaced since they went missing in Sept. My mom had paid $800 to get a new pair and boom not even a month they are missing again. They said they looked everywhere for them and can’t find them. Keep in mind my grandma does not walk so she is bed ridden so it’s not like she left them somewhere. Anyways please don’t bring her family here, it’s not worth $2,200 a month not including other fees like laundry and other shit they keep adding on a month.

From the moment I entered, it truly felt like home for my mom. The staff embraced her as part of the Holyrood family. Within a day, everyone greeted her by name with a warm smile, recognizing her as an individual. Her CARE was personalized to fit her unique needs, quirks, and preferences. Any suggestions or requests we made were promptly addressed. They took a collaborative approach, patiently answering all our questions and never showing frustration with my need for understanding. The staff remained composed and supportive, even with my mom's unconventional behaviours due to her dementia. They reassured me that they were equipped to handle it with care. The building’s smaller size fosters a close-knit COMMUNITY where everyone knows each other, rather than just coexisting. Many staff members have been there for years, reflecting the positive environment. Residents enjoy three MEALS and snacks daily, all prepared on-site. Each meal offers two options, ensuring variety within a rotating three-week menu. Staff happily adjust portions to suit individual preferences; for instance, my mom loved veggies, so she received extra servings. Families are welcome to join their loved ones at mealtimes. We often visited in the "200 Room" for a cozy, private meal with mom. You're welcome to bring a home cooked meal or share in the resident's meal. The FACILITY is impeccably clean. Staff are constantly cleaning, washing, and disinfecting surfaces. Laundry is refreshed regularly, linens are changed daily, and floors are spotless. It was significantly cleaner than the hospital where my mom stayed before making Extendicare Holyrood her final home. Not everything or everyone is perfect, that's true anywhere. However, the management is highly responsive when concerns arise. Budget constraints do play a role in what can be achieved. Having family regularly present to assist makes a significant difference. I have another parent potentially needing extended care in the coming years and would look to Holyrood as my first stop.

This home appears to try very hard to provide activities to keep the residents engaged. I thank the recreation staff for that Their are many caring staff members that go out of their way to treat the patients like human people with feelings., Thanks Kieth! From what I hear the menus look good but the actual food is often not consumable. I realize that items like steak needs to be mushed up, spices and salt can not be used. I suggest having condiments ready and served with the meal. Perhaps some Mrs Dash spices, mild hot sauces, mayo, ketchup, mustard. Lime, butter HP sauce. Can be always available and quick to be served before the dinning begins. The residents need napkins and need to be reminded on how to use them on the on going basis. Medical care needs to be address and copies of the results from all tests and doctors reports should be provided to the patient. We are not putting our loved one in Hollyrood to die. We want them to thrive and have care to extend their lives. Each patient needs tender care. They often need to be transferred to wheelchairs, tubs, beds. This needs to be done with care and compassion as it can be a very painful process. The straps must be spread out as to not put undue pressure on the back of the legs. Please do not talk about a patient when they are right there, include them in the conversation. Change napkins with care and application of protection cream is applied on the cleaned skin. Just like an infant, a rash is unacceptable. Please provide your clients with a written statement of all charge to their account monthly. On the whole it appears that friendships are nurtured between some of the staff and clients. This all helps in making my family member safe and cared for. I thank all the special staff that go the extra mile to add joy to our parents lives. You know who you are! Wishing you and your families health and happiness in the New Year. Ps. I would love to see the daily activities posted on a private app of secure Facebook page. I gives me great pleasure to see my sweet mama smile.
