  I had an appointment at 580 Harwood (Lakeridge hospital) but mistakenly parked and entered into 680 Harwood (Lakeridge Gardens). The lady at the reception desk was very rude. As soon as we walked in she was scolding us for parking out front. She did not even know why we were there and without explaining that we were likely at the wrong building she said we had leave immediately and park in the parking garage. There were plenty of available spaces so this was confusing for us as it should not have been an issue. As I tried to explain that I have an appointment in ambulatory care and I also have a disabled parking permit and should be I able to park there .. she spoke over me and was aggressive and said I was not allowed to park there and I would be towed if I didn’t move to the parking garage. This is when we asked her if we were in the right building and all she said was “you have to move your car.” That’s when we realized that it was a long term care facility and not the actual hospital and we asked how to get to ambulatory care but she refused to point us in the right direction and kept threatening to tow us if we didn’t move immediately. I am in a considerable amount of pain and walking that short distance was very difficult so for this receptionist to be so rude, dismissive, disrespectful, uncaring, inconsiderate and unhelpful was completely unacceptable ESPECIALLY since there are a health care facility! We left and found another spot closer to the hospital (not in the parking garage which was quite a distance away) which was right by the front entrance. I feel that this lady should NOT be dealing with the public especially since patients are already vulnerable and struggling with whatever health issues they are dealing with and we do not need to be treated so disrespectfully by a staff member who’s job is literally supposed to be to greet people and help to guide us in the right direction. We were there at approximately 2:20 Wednesday June 24th. I have a disabled parking permit and there were no signs saying that there were any restrictions on parking there so I should be permitted to use any disabled parking space available and I should be treated with care no matter where I park. I felt discriminated against and her only concern was not letting us park where we had parked and jumping straight to threatening to tow our car was absurd. I hope this person is removed from her position at the reception desk and someone more capable of being helpful and personable is given the opportunity to fill that position. I do want someone to follow up in regard to my review please. I am under enough stress and suffering in pain so her behaviour should be reported and reprimanded. There were witnesses sitting in the waiting area who can verify the events and how it unfolded. We were not rude nor were we argumentative.. we were just trying to figure out where we needed to be and she wouldn’t even answer our questions. This is not acceptable.

  I cannot recommend this facility. It "looks" great because it's new but that means nothing about the level of care. My mom was there for 4 yrs and sustained several injuries: dislocated shoulder, 2nd degree burn from their tea, a significant bump on the top of her head that caused bruising on 2/3's of the top of her scalp, a toenail almost fully torn off during care and never reported or noticed. Just recently it was discovered she had 2 broken fingers. The bones were actually broken into many fragments and pieces were breaking through her skin. She was fully wheelchair bound. All injuries were reported to the ministry among other incidents that occurred. There is no accountability within the home. LG will say there is. They do an "investigation" but it will turns up nothing every time because all the staff say they did not see anything happen. So, essentially loved ones are not safe. Then to add further to this story, my mom passed away very recently. When we cleared out her room, we were assured several times that her belongings were safe to leave in the room for another family member to pick up. When the family member went to gather the 2 boxes, it was discovered that LG threw out her precious personal items into the garbage. There are two shining compliments I can give. The recreation team and programming is top notch. Also, the kitchen staff and dietician were dedicated and made every effort for my mom who had many dietary restrictions.

  Lakeridge Gardens is a very nice LTC facility for my mother, who is nonambulatory. Good food. Caring staff. Very clean. Well lit. In general, it's hard for Mom to be in LTC. Like in any of these facilities, some of the other residents are pretty loud (dementia) and/or unpleasant. But Lakeridge Gardens deals with everyone with respect and kindness. It's just hard to have one's choices taken away, even at an advanced age.
