  Some of the staff are nice, others don't care. The place is understaffed. But the biggest issue is communication. The team members of nurses, physicians, administration, and PSWs do not communicate properly with each other or follow up on patient appointments. For example, to make sure a senior patient is going to his or her booked medical appointment, you have to call a nurse then confirm with a staff member or a PSW, then you would call again to make sure the patient is downstairs to get to his or her acccess bus. With all these hurdles, most of the time, they do not answer phones. One of my close family members living there missed so many booked medical appointments for this miscommunication issue. One other scary concern is that I had to argue with a medical resident (physician under training) to arrange an x ray or send a family member who broke a leg to ER. In that place, you have to keep your eyes open for the sake of your loved one.

  My father was a resident at Providence Manor, and my experience with his care was extremely disappointing and, ultimately, heartbreaking. During his time there, my father suffered multiple falls, including one that resulted in four broken ribs and a broken collarbone. To this day, I have not received clear answers about how these falls occurred, what supervision was in place, or what measures were taken to prevent them. My father was also involved in incidents with other residents, including being pushed and struck. While I understand dementia can contribute to difficult behaviours, that explanation did little to reassure me that my father's safety was being adequately protected. After his final serious fall, I expressed concerns about him returning to Providence Manor because I no longer believed the facility could meet his care and safety needs. I was assured that appropriate safeguards were in place. However, from what I observed, those measures appeared limited to bed and chair alarms that were not always responded to promptly and a basic floor mat beside his bed. Communication was another major concern. I often found it difficult to obtain clear information regarding my father's condition, injuries, and care. In some cases, language barriers made communication even more challenging. Following my father's death, I learned from pathology findings that medication administration, including morphine given in close succession along with Gravol, was identified as a contributing factor in his death. This has only added to the questions and concerns our family continues to have. The handling of my father's belongings after his passing was also upsetting. Families are given only two days to remove their loved one's possessions. When I attended to collect his belongings, his walker was missing and remains missing. I was told that confused residents sometimes wander and take items. I found that response unacceptable. Families trust long-term care facilities to provide safety, dignity, accountability, and transparency. Unfortunately, my experience with Providence Manor left me feeling that my father deserved better. This review reflects my personal experience and the concerns I continue to have regarding my father's care.

  At all costs avoid this place. The care is appalling when it is given at all. The staff are rude and disrespectful to residents and each other. The filth is shocking. Don’t put a loved one in this hell.
