What's being released

Starting today, the numbers behind Senior Care Path's data reports are free to download from our new open data page, as CSV and JSON files. There are five datasets:

DatasetWhat it covers
Senior care cost by provinceMedian and upper-quartile starting rates for retirement living, assisted living, memory care and home care, by province and for Canada
Providers and Google ratings by provinceCommunities and home care agencies listed, how many are rated, the average Google rating and total reviews
Providers by care typeListings by type of care, with the average rating
Most-reviewed senior care marketsCities ranked by Google review volume, with reviews per provider
Senior care by cityOne row per city report: supply, ratings, median starting price where enough homes post one, and the median SCP Confidence Score

Every file is rebuilt daily from our live listings, so it always matches the figures on the report pages.

Free to reuse, with credit

The data is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). Anyone can use it in articles, research, classes, planning documents or their own tools, commercially or not, as long as they credit Senior Care Path and link to the source report. Each dataset comes with a ready-to-copy citation.

Why we're doing this

Families making a senior care decision are often working from guesses. Fewer than 1 in 10 Canadian providers publish a price, and public figures on what private-pay care costs are scattered or out of date. Reporters, researchers and planners run into the same gap.

As of this release, the national median reported starting rate is about $3,500 a month for retirement living, about $3,600 for assisted living and about $4,200 for memory care, with Ontario retirement living at about $4,000. Those are the kinds of figures people search for every day, and now they can be checked, cited and built on.

What's in it, and what isn't

The datasets hold aggregate figures only. They never include personal details, the listing directory itself or any one provider's prices. A median is published only where at least five listings post a rate, so no single home's price can be worked out.

Search-demand figures from our keyword research tools are not included, because those tools don't allow their numbers to be redistributed. They still appear, summarised, on our demand by city report.

For media and researchers

Need a cut we don't publish, such as a single city or care type over time? Contact our team and we'll do our best to help.

Families deserve to see real numbers before they make one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Publishing our data openly means anyone writing about senior care in Canada can check the figures, cite them and build on them. The more good information there is, the calmer these decisions get.
