Our parents have been living here for almost a year now. First impressions were wonderful. However, through lived experience and speaking with other residents, we can attest that there has been no shortage of issues experienced on numerous fronts. Staff turnover is high, and some staff have shared that they are not happy with working conditions. While the Shores boasts of being a premium echelon of senior living with exceptional services of a world class hotel it falls short of such claims. Management consistently fall short of following up in a timely manner to concerns of residents. All concerns are met with profuse apologies and excuses, but delays that stretch to weeks before things are rectified are the norm here. Weekly housekeeping includes only basic cleaning of bathrooms, kitchen, and mopping and vacuuming. No dusting of furniture is included nor do they clean the baseboards. My 80 year old parents are not getting down on their hands and knees to clean baseboards so the dust/dirt is building up. I strongly suggest that they amend their cleaning without increasing the already costly expense to residents for this. Cleaning in the building is not done on a daily basis and we’ve noticed things dropped on the floors still there 24-48 hours later. Outbreaks of COVID and gastrointestinal issues are almost a monthly occurrence resulting in lockdowns and no visitors allowed. Dining staff turnover is huge; and while staff are friendly they display for the most part no experience having served in a restaurant. Service is slow, and most often orders are wrong despite servers using electronic pads to record orders from each table. While the website claims the “bistro is open all day with creative menus” it is not. And when it is open during certain hours finding staff to assist is challenging. The variety of food offered in the meal plan is not as varied as the website claims. My parents were looking forward to moving here in retirement but are sorely disappointed by the letdown they are experiencing which differs from what was anticipated based on the claims made both verbally and on the website. The gym equipment, my husband viewed is certainly not geared towards the senior population and likely explains why we’ve never seen anyone using them. My parents, because of the many issues they’ve endured since moving in have stated that they would not recommend a move to the Shores if anyone asked. Does the building look lovely, yes. Is it conveniently located, yes. But, it does not live up to its proclaimed reputation. I will end on a positive note; the general staff are very pleasant and make every effort to engage with the residents and are very good at remembering names.

It was a gorgeous sunny day when we toured The Shores and the bright sunshine was glorious through the huge windows. There was lots of activity at the pop up booth selling clothing which meant the residents could shop in house. The lunch was delicious and all the staff we encountered were more than welcoming. We were impressed with the large kitchens in the luxury apartments and the views looking over the lake were spectacular. There are so many activities for socialisation, stimulation and fitness. Katherine was terrific in answering all of our questions and even saying we can bring the dog. It was a lovely time. Thanks.
