At first I wanted to write a bad review, however I had only been there through the night with my mother. Sure the halls and rooms are old. A deep clean never hurt anyone. But let me tell you. ( my mom went to this home palliative) and I have been a PSW myself for 35 yrs, when my mom was passing the compassion , love and care she recieved was above all expectations. The PSW showed my mom true love. The staff were with us, making sure all of our needs were met. They gave us comfort in such a devestating time . Nurses came in from the community on late hrs even to make sure she never felt a moment of discomfort. Ill never forget the PSW rubbing my mom's face , and kissing her on the forehead as if it was her own mother. To all of the staff. God Bless every one of you. Our family is shattered over her passing. However knowing that your loved one is so compassionately cared for made our sad memories so much easier to bear. From the Sheppard Family. Thank You. Thank all of you.

My Dad was put here after his brother turfed him out after needing some more home support. Here, the care he received there was deeply inadequate and, at times, outright neglectful. Despite having neuromuscular swallowing difficulties, my father was routinely given unsafe foods like burgers and to feed himself. When I raised concerns, I was told, *“If he gets aspiration pneumonia, that’s a good way to go.”* This callous attitude towards his well-being was shocking. When he choked and required suctioning, we were told the staff were not trained to use the suction machine. My father was left to try to save himself. This was not only dangerous but deeply distressing for him. When we raised these serious issues with the general manager, rather than addressing them appropriately, she warned us that if we submitted a formal complaint, the nurse involved might be deported — a clear attempt to deflect accountability and silence our concerns. Even basic requests, like taking him for a walk in his wheelchair, were met with fearmongering. We were told we would be giving him a cold and causing his “death and suffering.” In one of the most dehumanising incidents, my father was left alone in the bathroom. Trying to maintain his dignity, he attempted to stand by himself, fell, and was left lying in his own faeces. During his final days, he was left in pain, without proper symptom management. Despite our repeated pleas for help, a syringe driver for pain relief was only introduced after sustained pressure from us. It was only when we fought tirelessly to secure a hospice placement and get him out of the Barrie Manor establishment that he was finally able to pass peacefully and with dignity — something he was denied while under their care. No family should have to fight this hard for basic compassion. Barrie Manor failed my father when he needed them most.

Our family has been immensely blessed by this supportive community. Our beautiful Mama had been isolated (by choice) for almost ten years and we grieved the loss of the Mother who raised us. Barrie Manor was highly recommended to us by a Health Care Provider who works in the majority of similar settings in the city - and we are so grateful for that recommendation. Our Mom has been restored to herself, to her family, to her Creator, and to her Community. She has reclaimed her life under the trauma informed, evidence based, compassionate, and supportive atmosphere here. Her room is beautiful. The staff do a very good job of providing support while encouraging full agency and self determination. Thank you Barrie Manor. We are eternally in your debt.
