Mulcastor Mews is a hidden gem! The bricks and mortar may not be modern but the care and compassion is beyond compare. From the minute we walked in we could feel the warmth of home. The staff are respectful, kind, compassionate and felt like family. My dad was treated very well and I felt confident that he was being well cared for. Katherine made us all feel welcome and part of the family. I highly recommend for anyone that values care over lipstick!

I would like to send my heartfelt thanks to Mulcaster Mews. The building itself is not new but the care and compassion the staff give to their residents is wonderful. My close friend had a stroke leaving her paralyzed on her right side and unable to talk. Mulcaster Mews was one of two retirement homes in area that would accept her with her health requirements when the hospital told us they medically could not do anymore for her and Long Term Care had no open spaces. When she went to Mulcaster Mews she was considered a palitive patient. Miraculously between the care she received and her own strong will my friends strength came back to where she could feed herself and walk without assistance dragging her leg to steady herself. She had 2 more incidents where she was considered palative and each time with care and determination her health came back not as great as the first time but darn close. I cannot thank Katherine (administration) for all her guidance, knowledge in helping me through the transition. The nursing staff Naiya and Sheika for putting up with all my phone calls to check on my friend on a daily basis when I couldn't get to Barrie to see her and hear their care for her. . The care staff were very caring for my friend and got ro know her so that she was comfortable with them. Thanks to Dr Sackson for phone calls returned and all his guidance. The maintenance man was very helpful. My friend has now been given residence in LTC. So thanks to all. My only concerns were that there was no back up generator back for electricity outages tgat took place during thebice storm. The residents were tended to, looked after and meals were taken care of. Retirement Homes are not legislated to have back up power as LTC homes are. Also the the front door to the home is not secured with a locking or code system during the daylight hours but the administration and nurses offices have cameras in the offices

This was not the only home we looked at. We did our research, took tours, asked questions, read the lease agreements, understood our responsibilities and the responsibility of the homes before we selected Mulcaster Mews as the best fit. My Mother moved into Mulcaster Mews when she was in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's Disease. The staff immediately made her feel comfortable and she adjusted well to not being in her own home anymore. Mulcaster Mews is not a new building with fancy amenities, but it is clean and well maintained. I enjoyed the activities with her when visiting (trivia, crafts, the weekly musician who entertained). There are others that I did not observe or partake in. The food was hearty, well balanced meals and prepared fresh. My Mother did not have any dietary restrictions and enjoyed her meals. To me the most important part is the people. Katherine Stanton, the administrator is a wealth of experience and incredibly helpful in providing assistance navigating the ever changing process of dealing with your loved one's physical and intellectual abilities as they decline. Naiya and Sheika and all the care staff worked tirelessly to keep my Mom comfortable. They coordinated with the outside agencies who were brought in by Ontario Health at Home to assist as her condition declined . The respect, compassion and dignity they all showed my Mother at the end of her life is something my wife and I will forever be grateful for. Steve and Danielle Hutchinson
