  Our family chose this home because of its positive reviews and reputation. Unfortunately, our experience was the complete opposite. I felt the need to leave my honest review as there is only one other review that shared a similar experience. If you care about your loved one, I would watch out for similar situations. My grandmother was only a resident for a little over a month, and during that time we watched her health decline rapidly without understanding why. When we eventually discovered the cause, we were devastated. She had developed one of the worst diaper rashes and skin infections we had ever seen. (Nearly sepsis, resulting in over a month in the hospital) It was clear she had been left sitting in a soiled brief for extended periods of time. When we raised our concerns with staff, they brushed them off. We were told that residents are changed on a schedule only a few times a day and that she would have to wait. We were also told they were applying diaper cream, but from what we witnessed, her skin was not being cleaned properly before the cream was applied. Rather than treating the underlying issue, they minimized it.💔 What was most upsetting was the lack of accountability. Instead of acknowledging that her care needed to be adjusted, the responsibility was placed on my grandmother because she has dementia and was supposedly “uncooperative.” But this is exactly the population this facility has chosen to care for. People with dementia often cannot communicate their needs, cannot advocate for themselves, and may not cooperate with care. That isn’t an excuse to provide less care—it is the very reason compassionate, patient, and attentive caregivers are needed! By the time we realized how serious the situation had become, we had a nurse assess her and were told she needed immediate medical attention. She was rushed to the hospital with a severe infection that we believe could have been prevented with proper hygiene and attentive care. I understand that long-term care staff have demanding jobs and many residents to look after. However, no one deserves to be left in a soiled brief long enough to develop a severe infection, especially someone who cannot speak up for themselves. Day after day.. the pain and discomfort breaks my heart for the woman who took care of my entire family for years Our family trusted this home based on its reviews. I hope by sharing our experience, other families will ask difficult questions about hygiene practices, continence care, and how residents with dementia are cared for. Every resident deserves dignity, compassion, and proper care. Severe diaper rash/ infection is not normal, most of these elderly residents don’t have family visiting often and these situations are very hard to notice as most of us go by for a few hours to enjoy quality time not fully understanding what is going on down there. Please DO better.

  The staff were helpful and courteous. When we first walked in, there was entertainment in the lobby. That was a delight to see so many residents enjoying the music and singing along to "Sweet Caroline". A staff person also refrigerated the dessert we brought for Velma, and labelled the plate. That was very thoughtful!
